Presumably, your home is of a newer vintage, because some of these expenses can get outrageous in an older home, like Chez George's home (built in 1921). It was a 2 ½ story, 4000 square foot uninsulated brick house.

Some months our gas (heating) bill was as high as $600. I just looked at 2004's bills, and they totaled $3287.

By way of comparison, our 2000 square foot condo was $533 last year.

In the house, electricity ran about $2200 a year, in the condo, it's about the same (Mrs. George likes it cool).

I'm with Comcast, so TV, phone and internet are bundled. I subscribe to no premium channels. $190 a month.

Garbage pickup was about $55 a month.

    Water ran about $300 quarterly.

In the condo, waste pickup, water, lawn care, snow removal are in the assessment.

Alright, as the new owner of a single family home, I'm getting to experience the joys of having every service and utility charge you a fee. Often with the bonus of government and environmental fees, sometimes a processing fee, and even the lovely "base rate" fee.

Anyway, obviously it depends on your area, size of house, etc. Just curious what you all pay per month for:

      • Garbage (and yard waste) pickup
      • Gas
      • Electric
      • TV/Internet
      • Water

For example, I'm selecting one of the local garbage/yard waste companies and their prices range widely!

      TV/Internet - $180 (DISH, Internet, Landline)
      Water - $20

There are going to be all kinds of unexpected expenses as well.

Our stackable dryer died last year. Well, you can't replace the dryer alone, you have to replace both dryer and washer. Plan and budget for that kind of thing.

            Internet/TV/phone bundle - $210
            Water - $80

But I guess you get at least two or three times the amount of electricity than what I get for the same amount. These days we pay something like 32 cents per kilowatt hour.

Various expenditures fluctuate from month to month, so I just average annual expenditures over 12 months and give you average monthly expenditures:

                              • Garbage collection : included in taxes
                              • Gas + Electricity : $200
                              • Water + Sewer : $125
                              • Internet access : $40
                              • TV : maybe $10
(I no longer keep any cable TV subscription, this is just accounting for Amazon Prime subscription; though to be honest I got that subscription for Prime Shipping rather than for Prime Video. Also got a free year of Disney+ that, if I had to pay, might come up to $8 a month; not sure if I will keep it after the “free year” is up.)

As befits his generation, @89th did not ask how much we pay for telephone service for the house. 😄

Check the details on that home warranty and look for their outs. Like if you did not maintain every single thing in the manner they prescribe.
