So your preferred narrative is “the media lie,” perhaps with a corollary to “believe the opposite of what you see in the media”, is that it?
Are “the media” all the same?
Is it really workable for you to function in contemporary US society to completely ignore all “the media” or to always believe the opposite of whatever you see in “the media”?
If not, then it comes down to curation — how do you pick what to read, how do you evaluate what you read, and from there form your believes.
Taking this a step further, there is also the matter of what concrete acts do you perform to maintain or promote the sort of “media” you would to see more off.

People on both sides of the political divide frequently complain about the media they don't like, and then post links to the most ridiculous websites making bizarre claims.
There's only really a motivation to change if people hold the news services who have the views they agree with accountable, rather than just bitching about the guys on the other team.
I don't see any sign of that happening.

Sorta.
Media today makes its money by constantly agitating and dividing people. It does so, because of the 24hr news cycle, content needs and guaranteed eyeballs due to silo-casting.

Speaking of, I have noticed of late that more and more, non-news is given headline status, when the item doesn't deserve media space, much less headline media space.
Recently I went through the Google News site and put a mental check mark against all the items that didn't qualify to be thought newsworthy. Really stupid non-items like that McConnell condemns something the Democrats said or did.
No, really?
Oh, for the days news actually competed for limited broadcast room! That's not necessary anymore. And given the human proclivity to gravitate to bad news, guess what gets emphasis? And in turn generates more of the same.

That is why this forum board is so good. We have a good mix of people with different opinions. I read articles I maybe would not normally read, sometimes it changes my mind, sometimes it doesn't, but at least it makes me think and see things from a different side.
