First of the season

Yes! We saw our first two nights ago after putting up the feeder about three days before.

Also changing the bird seed in the bird seeder to keep away the starlings. Sunflower seeds attracted house finches.

Yay! We got ours this week too.

I don't think this one is Alphie. This one was very nervous and skittish. When Alphie arrives, he knows he owns the place.

Loki, you might not know about Alphie. Did you hang out at TNCR 2 to 3 years ago? I don't always know or remember when other posters arrived over the years.

Yes, we name our resident hummers at our house.

Saw this on walk in our local park yesterday. The picture doesn’t do it justice. Remarkable bright turquoise blue plumage. Really beautiful. I’m not a birder at all but I was so taken that I whipped out the phone and got this poor shot.

So after lots of googling I’ve decided two things

1 im thinking white throated kingfisher

2 I’ll never be a birdwatcher

Bach, not only is color remarkable, look at that beak. Wow. What a schnoz on that one!

Oh, and another thing, bach, you're already a birdwatcher, though maybe not a birder. Kind of like two different levels of crazy. You're not completely nuts, like some of us are.

Alphie is new to me. Ours are named her and him. Or is it he and she. I get so confused. Today’s goal is to give them new names.

I have a special fondness for Alfie, because he's the first one to come to my hand for a feeding.

We have Huey who has come back the last couple years. He was one of a trio of young ones a few years ago we named Huey, Dewey and Louie. Not sure if he came back last year.

This morning I saw this gorgeous thing on the deck. Can't seem to identify him.
