I suspect it will take helicopters

    That captain’s career is shot.

My understanding is the weather caused this. A severe dust storm with high winds. No visibility and no control against the wind due to the profile of the ship.

This photo drives home the scale...

        alt text

With the size of the ships coming through, I’m surprised they never devised a lock system yo raise and lower the water levels.

Love how the boat's name is "EVER GIVEN", I wonder what the first two words were 😉

I would think a ship like this would have pretty detailed navigating systems.

The front of the ship starts to go off the correct line, the motors power one side or the other to correct for example

It just surprises me that this would happen. For sure, someone who was steering messed up big time!

That ship has 20,000 containers on it.

                        The scale is amazing.

You can see the ship here:

And look at all the ships waiting when you zoom out.

@jon-nyc Ther's got to be what? 1800 on there? 2000? Those things weigh 4 tons empty...The ship itself is 200,000 tons. The max payload for most of those containers is 30 tons. Guess an average payload of 16 tons for shits and giggles... You're getting up close to 250,000 tons and that's a conservative guess.
