@xenon said in Asian hate? Seriously?:
I don’t know if I’m the right type of Asian for this one.
Come back here North and you'll certainly be the right type of Asian for this one.
Sad as it is, one is as good as another.

I had a conversation with my brother in Oregon, last night. Besides the usual family matters, he brought up a call he received from a ‘friend.’ The friend wanted to check on my brother and the family amidst rising violence toward Asian Americans. While my brother appreciated the gesture, he told his friend that it wasn’t necessary. The friend said he had been concerned about all the anti-Asian violence ever since Trump and the “China” virus rhetoric.
The friend knows my brother is a staunch conservative, so my brother got irritated. He asked the dude, what’s Trump got to do with the Georgia shootings and where was his phone call last year? The friend said he didn’t get what my brother was getting at. My brother replied that there were over 3,800 incidents of anti-Asian violence last year, yet you didn’t check on us. The friend said he didn’t know. My brother said, of course not—because no one besides us Asians cared. But now that you see a perp is a white male from the South, you start to care. You have to make this about YOU making a political statement rather than really caring about us, the Asian Americans.
My brother is correct. How can we trust and believe your sentiments when you didn’t care last year when we pleaded for assistance? The district attorneys in the Bay area and NYC acted blind to our plight. The national mainstream media didn’t lend us their ear nor their voice because the narrative didn’t fit.
But, now, you care.
As the saying goes, read it all.

Not on this site, but I saw it elsewhere.

Yeah, it's Paul Joseph Watson, but, at least in the first 4 minutes, is he wrong?
Link to videoWhat really got me is that he shows Trevor Noah saying that this was a racially-motivated attack. Within hours, FBI Director Wray gave lie to that premise, and yet, Twitter lets it stand. As Watson says, "This is the VERY DEFINITION of fake news."
-
The left does not count on Paul Joseph Watson being factually wrong about any of that. They count on the culture they've created to impose consequences on anybody who utters those facts. A Rush Limbaugh or a Tucker Carlson or, to get nuttier, a Paul Joseph Watson, can utter such facts in their niche, but they are among the few.

Has anybody else noticed that we’re not allowed to call it the Wuhan Virus or China Virus because racism, but everybody is talking about the UK Variant, the South African Variant, the Brazil Variant....

Money controls the message...

but everybody is talking about the UK Variant
There was a Tweet by some right-wing talking head in the UK, complaining that it was unfair to refer to it as the UK variant as it was adversely affecting British reputation abroad (!). He posted this completely seriously, despite previously referring to Covid-19 as the Chinese virus, and getting into an argument with some other armchair warrior for justice about it.

@lufins-dad after all this time, you expect consistency?
C'mon, man!

No, not a great point; actually the point is entirely wrong.
Here's the difference: when the likes of Trump say "China virus," they mean to lay blame on China for manufacturing or otherwise deliberately releasing a plague on the world; when the world says "UK variant" or "South African variant" or "Brazilian variant," there is no accusation or hint of blaming the British or the South Africans or the Brazilians for creating the variant. Instead, there is universal understanding that the Brits, the South Africans, and the Brazilians are also victims just like the rest of us.
That is why such terms as "China Virus" (or "Wuhan Flu" or "Kung Flu", etc.) runs into problem while the other terms like "UK variant", "South African variant", and "Brazilian variant" do not.
Historically, there are also terms like the "German measles" or the "West Nile virus" that do not run into trouble, for the same reason.

Mind-reader, you are, LOL.

CNN ran an "analysis" piece this morning which stated that the media "rushed to downplay racism against Asians as a motive". It blamed Trump for his "china virus" rhetoric, which then apparently gave rise to wordplay such as "the Kung Flu". I'd never heard of "the Kung Flu" before. I have no doubt that the author of the piece wants the political opposition to be seen using such terms. So why not publicize them as much as possible, "to remind everybody how awful those terms are"?

Wow, Ax, project much?
