I've been remarkably stable throughout, until December. For some reason, the weather got really sucky, and I stopped my outdoor walks. Put on about 5 lb since the end of November. But now that it's getting nicer outside, I'm getting back at it. Did 4 miles twice this week, and I'll probably do 5 tomorrow.

It's interesting how quickly I de-conditioned. I used to do 5.5 to 6 miles with no major effort. Yesterday after 3, I was tired.

It'll build up, again, even at my advanced age.

It’s fascinating that one cannot inventory physical health. There is no bank to put it in. On the other hand it is possible to make permanent mental gains yet few people practice that deliberately.

Please PLEASE contact Horace on this!
I know at his advancing age and weight, he can lose 20 lbs. by just skipping a meal. He keeps insisting donuts are a vegetable, and other falsificanizations we covered in previous threads over the years.

Now watch him be rude and inappropriate and mention something about my weight. Very hard for someone like me, that doesn't have dual monitors, but must use dual mirrors.

No no no. You mistunderstood. It was "an Apple Pie a day." With I jug of whip cream per quarter. And he could down it with the best of them. Amazing, although somewhat disgusting to watch, but what the heck, still amazing, like watching farm animals for the first time.

Anybody up for it? I've got about 20 shutdown pounds to get rid of. I'm sure I'm not the only one... Any takers?

I'm down, but I'm going to cheat. I've already lost 10-12, so I've 8-10 to go.

              Please love yourself.

I’m in. I’ve got a bunch to lose. I did really well the first 2 weeks of February. But not so good these last two. I need to not snack, and I need to get more consistent exercise. (And I need the weather to warm up so I don’t feel so much like hibernating)

                      Re' snacking.

I'm a great believer in intermittent fasting. Not the whacko "600 calories for two days and then binge" stuff. I fast from 8PM until about noon the next day. That, and restricting carbs (<100 grams per day) was a 25 lb loss for me. It's easy and sustainable. My only cheat is my (cheap) Scotch after 8 PM, until about 9.

I’ve maintained a weight within 5 pounds either way for 40 years. I’ve had one size of clothes and could fit into anything I ever bought in that time horizon. I’m not bragging, because I certainly can’t say the same about a lot of things in my life. I’ve mentioned before I do weigh myself everyday and I believe that I make different choices when I see myself nearing 5 pounds at the upper limit.

As for the challenge, do we want to start Monday morning, March 1st?

M&M’s suggests a weigh in (you don’t have to post your weight if you don’t want to), measuring your waist (you don’t need to post again, but she recommends still measuring your waist because sometimes the victories aren’t in pounds but inches. Your weight might stay the same, but your clothes start getting a little looser...), and a picture
                            or two...

For many years lunch was my first meal of the day.

I always had what my Dad called the soldier’s breakfast - cigarettes and coffee.

No way I could skip breakfast now. Especially given the amount of coffee I drink in the am.

                                  Every day. Every single day.

                                  1. Stop eating at 8 PM, start at noon the next day. That's 16 hours of fasting.
                                  2. Limit carbs to 150 grams (100 is better)
                                  3. Keep calories under 1800 per day.

                                  Easy, peasy.

Go to YouTube and look up "Jason Fung" for intermittent fasting. He's a nephrologist, and he explains the physiology of fasting very clearly. You have to convince your body that you're starving, and its easy to do.

David Sinclair in his book "Lifespan" talks about the beneficial effects of "stressing" your body.

I guess. I do it differently but the same idea.

I eat first around 90 minutes, 2 hours after I wake up. Very light protein stuff: 2 eggs, one piece of toast. I have to do this, though. If I start feeling hungry in the morning, and I don't do anything about it, I'm worthless for the entire day. I've tried it, and I can't make skipping breakfast work for me. I also tried fruit instead of protein and it's the same result. So, I do what my body tells me.

From there I'm good until dinner. After dinner and at night, it's pu'erh tea instead of food.

I don't know what kind of strategy you would call that but it's working for me and I don't even want to cheat at it, so that's what I'm sticking with.

                                    Please love yourself.

I’m the same way, Aqua, I need protein for breakfast. If I just have cereal or a bagel it doesn’t hold off the hunger

Like Jon, breakfast during my single days consisted of coffee and a cigarette. I wasn’t hungry till lunch.

My biggest challenge will be avoiding food after 8. For years I was stuck in a routine of nothing in the morning, a very light lunch, and a large dinner often very late (8:00).

My second biggest challenge will be beer. I like 1-2 beers a day... That’s not conducive to shrinking the waist.
