New car

I'll probably pull the trigger on Monday.
The Hyundai Santa Fe we have is getting too small for extended family trips.
We've decided to get a Mercedes V Class Van.
This is what they look like (ours will have black leather, though, not brown). There's no denying that it's still a van, but for a van they made it look decent.
I think you can't buy these in the US, by the way. They sell something they call the "Metris", but its a quite different car.

That’s cool.

Looks nice!
Does the US allow rear-facing seats?

How so?
Metris.
V class.
I rest my case.
Also, I believe a Metris is a ~ $40K car. The V class with a few standard options selected is around twice that amount.

Does tax structure there make it more advantageous to buy a German vehicle?
No. But when it comes to "luxury" vans, there are only two options on the market, and both of them are German: VW Multivan or Mercedes V class.
We had a Multivan a couple of years ago. It was also a nice car, but Mercedes makes nicer interiors these days and, believe it or not, the Mercedes van is cheaper than the Multivan if you do an apples-to-apples comparison.

" ... extended family trips."
For some reason, I pictured Klaus with his wife, kids, in-laws, his parents, their kids, all the cousins ...Oh, that would be a nightmare. My wording was a little ambiguous. I meant long trips with my wife&kids. Things like "start a trip to Spain at 8pm and arrive next morning" don't work with the limited space on the back bench and three kids that are almost as big as adults by now.
-
My gosh, that is gorgeous! The Metris is basically a cargo van with seats forced into it, but the V-Class... Wow!
@George-K I take it you've never ridden in a limo? Rear-facing seats are fine, it's just those flimsy little seats in the back of station wagons that aren't allowed anymore.
@Klaus something like the V-Class could get me to seriously consider getting a van again, though Karla is pushing for a Mustang or Charger.

No, your wording was fine. I just saw a second version in my mind, one that was like a nightmare indeed.

Steer clear of the Charger.

Problem with the muscle cars is the have shit visibility.
Get the Mustang, at least it comes in a convertible. Then you can see.
