I did the Dyson cordless for Xmas last year, in part as a joke...was not received well at all. By the afternoon it was her favorite toy. As I still get thanked.

I bought my wife a good coffee grinder for her birthday once... did not go over great. Nothing fun about a coffee grinder. Now she says it's one of her favorite possessions.
