Do they have grounds, considering what was known about the virus at the time?

Hells yeah! We knew that it was extraordinarily virulent and extremely dangerous to seniors before it ever really hit in the US. Remember that Cuomo was sending patients to the nursing home AFTER the huge mega COVID hospital and the Navy ship were ready to go.

No subpoenas for nursing home death data.

      https://dailycaller.com/2021/02/02/ny-senate-dems-block-subpoena-coronavirus-nursing-home-death-data/

New York State Senate Democrats block a subpoena request Monday for nursing home Covid-19 fatality data, according to a report from the New York Post.

The blockage comes just days after NY Attorney General Letitia James released a report suggesting that Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo may have undercounted nursing home fatalities by as much as 50 percent.

The subpoena was an official motion made during a virtual meeting by Sen. Thomas O’Mara, ranking Republican on the Investigations committee, who said there was more information to be had.

“We talked about [issuing a subpoena] on and off throughout the past year,” O’Mara (R-Elmira) said in a statement to the New York Post.

The motion was blocked by top Democrat Sen. James Skoufis, who argued that the motion was largely moot after state Health Commissioner Howard Zucker was forced to release more detailed information following the attorney general’s report.

This doesn’t make any sense - the report mentioned above came from the AG.

After months of investigative work, New York Attorney General Letitia James and her office released their report on the number of COVID-related fatalities in state nursing homes

She wants his job so she is pretending this is a scandal.

The likely truth is in the fog of war people didn’t really understand what was going on. Of course it’s a double standard because in 2020 it mattered “who”more than “what” in terms of how the media handled it but it’s intellectually dishonest to rail on Cuomo unless he truly did something nefarious.

I’m trying to figure out why anyone would consider this a scandal. I get the reaction of AG James and Representative Stefanik, but they’re bucking for Cuomo’s job.

It’s kind of ironic. Before Cuomo was getting shit for having Covid patients stay in nursing homes. Now he’s getting shit because some of them went to hospitals and died there. Jesus.

I am loathe to attack pretty much anyone in the context of the early - or even later - pandemic. It's been a rapidly moving target since day one with very little information to fight it.

Ummm...how is it not a scandal? Cuomo's actions were single-handedly responsible for the explosion of COVID in New York. By May 2020 New York had 10 times the deaths that California had. And it looks like Cuomo tried to keep a lid on it, with help from his media friends, not only because he had a self-congratulatory book coming out but of course to keep himself politically viable.

He couldn't have worked with his medical people, and created some kind of step-down facility besides putting an infectious patient back in the nursing home?

Unfortunately the average lifespan in a nursing home is not very long to begin with. I don’t think I’ve ever read any discussion on what it means to have your life cut short in a nursing home. I know the human side of loved ones not being prepared is tough. I also know that often the amount of money that would be distributed in a lawsuit or settlement is usually based on some relationship between expected remaining life and loss of income.

What is the average life expectancy of nursing home patients?
The average length of stay before death was 13.7 months, while the median was five months. Fifty-three percent of nursing home residents in the study died within six months. Men died after a median stay of three months, while women died after a median stay of eight months.

How about because he defended himself by pointing to the "low" number of nursing home deaths, but those numbers didn't account for the nursing home residents that died in the hospital?
