    You can't make this stuff up

    https://www.npr.org/2021/02/02/963467966/pro-trump-election-conspiracist-lin-wood-under-investigation-for-illegal-voting

    The Georgia secretary of state's office is investigating allegations that Lin Wood, a high-profile pro-Trump attorney who launched fruitless challenges to election results and pushed baseless conspiracies of fraud, may have illegally voted in the November general election. Wood played a crucial role in President Trump's efforts to undermine the election.

    Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office confirmed the investigation was opened after a reporter with WSB-TV in Atlanta posted an email from Wood where the attorney said he had been living in South Carolina for several months.
    .
    .
    .
    After news of the investigation broke, Wood wrote that he only became a South Carolina resident as of Feb. 1 and called Raffensperger a "loser" who "is going to jail."

    I was only joking

          So basically, Georgia law as I read it essentially says:

          • If you move to another state with an intent for it to be your new residence soon, you are no longer eligible to vote in GA
          • If you move to another state for an indefinite period of time, you also lose your eligibility to vote in GA
          • If you vote in another state (did he vote in SC?) you lose your eligibility to vote in GA

          See:

          https://law.justia.com/codes/georgia/2010/title-21/chapter-2/article-6/21-2-217/

          (4) If a person removes to another state with the intention of making it such person's residence, such person shall be considered to have lost such person's residence in this state;

          (5) If a person removes to another state with the intention of remaining there an indefinite time and making such state such person's place of residence, such person shall be considered to have lost such person's residence in this state, notwithstanding that such person may intend to return at some indefinite future period;

          (13) If a person goes into another state and while there exercises the right of a citizen by voting, such person shall be considered to have lost such person's residence in this state;

            Opening that door is very interesting. Apply the disqualification evenly and I wonder what would happen to the tally in GA.

              This sort of thing is impossible to figure out without investigation.

              If someone has multiple houses - it's up to them to self report what's happening.

              I don't think many people have multiple domiciles in multiple states , anyways.

                I don't know how this is 'opening a door'. Like any other crime or violation, the authorities usually need to get wind of it somehow before they investigate.

                  Easy. Apply an algorithm and have pop out all the people that potentially don’t meet criteria. We have that from ballots and the ability to combine with other data too, right?

                    What's the algorithm based on? How many houses you own in different states? Who do you report that to, the feds or multiple states?

                    This is just one very specific avenue of potential fraud.

                      i think that the number of people who would qualify for this is quite small.

                      And the number who qualify and abuse it, is quite quite small.

                      For my thinking, I would think it is maybe a couple of hundred per state, but for sure I would think less than 1000.

                      (NOTE: no actual research was done to come up with the numbers!!!)

                        It wasn’t a trust building exercise when famous people encouraged people to find a way to vote in Ga no matter where they were from. Maybe my memory is failing and I won’t bother to find it. I’m sure someone else can find any relevant twitter threads.

                          The irony of calling Raffensperger a "loser" trumps that of being investigated for voter fraud, IMHO.
