Ax’s lame movie recos and cool YT picks

Old American kungfu movie.
Trigger warning: even though it was made in the pre-woke era, it features women and minorities as the heroes and a white man as the villain.

Ignore the Chinese characters on the cover, all the audio and text are actually in English.I particularly like the “rotating” bridge shows around the 19:25 mark and the rolly polly bridge right after.
-
The Wilburforce pendulum part is good, the part on quantum superposition is perhaps a bit contrived.

@horace said in Ax’s lame movie recos and cool YT picks:
To retaliate against the lameness of Ax's picks, I would like to recommend "Black Sea". Definitely held my interest through its 90 minutes. Playing now on Netflix.
On your recommendation I put it in my queue and watched about half of it.
Jude Law is amazing in this role - talk about "gritty."
This is "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" meets "K-19."
Pretty gripping so far.
-
@horace I have to say I found the second half a bit disappointing. It descended into a lot of typical "adventure movie" tropes.
- The hero who misses his family
- The unstable guy who threatens to kill the mission
- The ultimate sacrifice of the hero
- The unlikely guy on the ship who ends up surviving
- The surprise twist about the true nature of the mission
Many, many, others. I'd give the first half 3 stars, the second half, two.
Not bad, but not great.

Senior citizen rom-com with a diamond heist adventure. Very well executed and fairly fast paced, but perfectly tame and completely benign. No deep philosophy, not much moralizing, and no heavy social commentary, you can turn your brain off and just watch it with your old ball and chain for a relaxing hour and a half.

Off string yo-yo!
Haven’t pay attention to yo-yoing for many years, just catching up to the “off string yo-yo” innovations, as in yo-yos that can be completely detached from the string.
Brief explanation of the physics involved:

Then it hit me that it’s just a miniature version of a traditional Chinese circus act, like these:
