If only the Capitol hadn't been largely unguarded. Now how the heck did that ever happen?

General McChrystal had an interesting take here on Sam Harris's latest podcast.

Basically he said it was a failure of imagination (and gave the analogy of 9/11). They'll have to lock the cockpit door now.

I've made that analogy at least a couple times here on TNCR. I'm rather proud of it, I think it gets to the heart of an important matter. It's never been responded to.

The cops there have seen protest after protest for years and no one even approached the metal barriers in the past.

So that's it? Cops never felt threatened? Cops never felt hamstrung in their ability to do their jobs? It's just that they never felt threatened?

    I don't think so.

We’ve been told that the FBI had accumulated significant threat intelligence. So what did the Capitol police do with it or was the intel just normal chatter and the news thus overblown or did the Capitol police not get that assessment?

        @mik interesting, no?

I guess these people see that they should give no "loyalty" because there's really no upside to it for them. Particularly when it comes to the Wrongthink Police who are already sharpening their knives.

You think John Kelly isn't going because he is worried about the Wrongthink police? Or because he genuinely thinks the man and his presidency are a disgrace?

I am also not going to Trump’s send off party. For one, I am not invited to that party. But I also genuinely think Trump and his presidency are a disgrace.

At this time, it’s probably more interesting to talk about who will be going to Teump’s send off party. E.g., will Sen. Hawley and Sen. Cruz be going?

I'm sure that Roger Stone, Mike Flynn and the young Jared Kushner's recently pardoned daddy will drop by and show their support for the outgoing Toddler and Chief. It's the least they can do to show their heartfelt gratitude.

Because some other police forces last summer faced the most "under the microscope" clashes with protesters ever. (Mass protests against police being filmed by thousands of smartphone cameras in the frontlines)

I don't think the police at the capitol building have really ever had to deal with holding back throngs of people.

It was probably bewildering the first time this happened (in recent history).

Yes I understand the "two bit thug" thing in relation to its racism within American culture. I get it, you think those who use the term are racist. Good job, Canadian. You get it. When I say Biden is a punk, it has more to do with general human experience. He's a puppet, at this stage of his life. Enjoy.

Punk is a pretty good word choice.

He likes to play the tough guy. But a good slap would turn him inside-out, he is an old man.

It's hard to imagine people turning their back on him like this when he's so selflessly inspired such loyalty from his closest colleagues for the last four years.

Personally ever regarded him as a politician. The primary process, in which I never had anything to do, selected him as a choice between him and Hillary Clinton. I am a gambler at heart. I knew Hillary. Not so much Trump. I still don't hate the guy, sorry. I actually still like him.

I don't think I ever liked him very much.

But I think he did a terrific job as president.

I'll never understand most of the negative stuff. I just never saw it come from him. I saw the cnn commentators' stuff and all the sick twisted stuff posted here, but I didn't see it come from him.

I did hear that private conversation of locker room talk from 17 years ago that he apologized for over and over hundreds of times. I understand that some people just can't abide locker-room talk in a private conversation between two men.

Everybody already knows that Biden is a punk

He's a little old to be a punk don't you think? Nevertheless I guess given his racial profile, he doesn't qualify either for the "two-bit thug" euphemism used here at one time.

Yes I understand the "two bit thug" thing in relation to its racism within American culture. I get it, you think those who use the term are racist. Good job, Canadian. You get it. When I say Biden is a punk, it has more to do with general human experience. He's a puppet, at this stage of his life. Enjoy.

The main thing is that you get it. That's really all that matters; as they say, awareness is the first step.

I guess these people see that they should give no "loyalty" because there's really no upside to it for them. Particularly when it comes to the Wrongthink Police who are already sharpening their knives.

You think John Kelly isn't going because he is worried about the Wrongthink police? Or because he genuinely thinks the man and his presidency are a disgrace?

the man and his presidency . . .

I have never even been able to think of his time in office as a "presidency". For me it has been more of a blackout intermission between real presidents.
