Sup?

I mean, Hey Frank! Damn glad to see ya!
-
@LuFins-Dad said in Sup?:
Who the hell let you in? Aw cripes, Jon, I told you to take the link at the last place down...
JonFail (again).

Howdy! Yes, I'm still in the Bakersfield area. Good to see everyone! This new format is... strange. I'll get the hang of it eventually...
I hope everyone is happy and healthy and all that jazz. For those of you who have family members wrestling with Covid, I hope you are staying healthy, and that recovery is smooth and seamless.
Since I was last here, I got my AS in surgical technology and worked as a scrub tech until the hospital got sold off to Adventist Health, and they dropped the axe on anyone and everyone.
I went to work for Brooks Brothers, but Covid shut it down, and then they filed Chapter 11. I now work for Home Depot.
In January, I'm starting on my Bachelors in military history. Thanks to my work getting my Associate's, and all of my military training, all of my GenEd and electives are done. I'll only have 50 credit hours in my core classes.
My oldest son is an instructor at Top Gun.
Youngest son graduates the police academy next week.
Both daughters are in college.And..... That's about all that's been happening!

Heh. We're all about the "Christian mission" until it comes down to dollars.
Assholes.
My oldest son is an instructor at Top Gun.
How cool is that? What part of instruction is he involved in?

Talk about a fucked-up virus. Wow.
Hope you're stable for a while.
-
Hell, Frank. I thought you were dead.
Guess not, huh?
-
Thanks. Yeah... Adventist Health really screwed A LOT of people out of jobs, just so they could install their own people. I guess I don't blame them, but it was pretty abrupt. Not nice....
My oldest son's field is Intel. Very cool stuff, but not much that he can talk about, of course.
As for Brooks Brothers: Even before Covid, they were in trouble. It was owned by an Italian guy who kept trying to "Euro-style" things, and then tried a more trendy line that went over like a lead balloon. It's an American company, and needs to remain an American company.
And yeah... Home Depot is a great company! They take care of their people. After my 90-day "probation" was up, they decided to keep me. A couple weeks later, they offered me full-time, which I jumped at. Now, I'm looking at applying for a supervisory position. We'll see how it pans out...
Jolly, I'll quote Mark Twain: Rumors of my demise have been grossly exaggerated. LOL

Hey, man! Good to hear from you! Sounds like you're doing well, all things considering this year. Military History, eh? Any particular time period you're trying to focus on?
-
@Aqua-Letifer Howdy! Good to see you, my friend! The degree covers everything from pre-Mongol all the way up and through Desert Storm. I've already blazed through two of my textbooks, cover-to-cover. Fascinating shit!
-
FFS, @Frank_W , how long have you been with TNCR?
We've changed, to be sure. A lot less contentious than it used to be, but most of us, after all these years are friends. There's no one here that I wouldn't be happy to share a beer or some (cheap) whiskey with.
I would not have said that a decade ago. We disagree, but we understand each other well enough after all this time to make it okay.
Stick around, jump in. The water's good.
-
@Copper Thanks for checking it out! I've written a ton more since then. Sadly, it doesn't make enough to pay the bills. Yet. I just keep on writing, though. It's always gratifying to sell a piece here and there. It nets a few dollars a month.
-
LMAO!

And another thing....
Many of us are "friends" on FB.
However, that's different. On FB, anyone you've ever "friended" has access to what you say, and you're inundated with all of their carp.
I have > 100 "friends". Most are acquaintances, former co-workers, etc. They're not "friends." They'e people I know.
Here, we are, even if we disagree, real friends, especially after (gasp) more than a decade. It's a totally different, and better, dynamic.
