The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I remember Vince telling us he was in a movie theater when he found out it had happened.

I know I've shared this before, my grandmother's diary entry:

        diary-dec7-41.jpg

It says "Very cold today. Stayed indoors most of the time and enjoyed our usual Sunday afternoon fire. Heard reports of Jap. invasion on radio this P.M."

        You were warned.

A couple of interesting perspectives from the article, as we in the U.S. fight over the viability of the central precept of our country based upon the "sovereignty of the individual" vs. collectivism mindset, as well as how we consider the purpose of education:

"The first of these elements was the diminution of the individual. Throughout Japanese society this had major impacts. At the naval command level it tended to reinforce the Japanese focus on consensus. This in turn led to a form of “groupthink,” which prevented rational critique of plans and strategies."

". . . extremely harsh discipline and the associated degradation of the quality of officer corps education stifled individuality and cost the IJN dearly. Historian Asada noted, 'The unimaginative emphasis on cramming and rote memory ended any original thinking.'"

I think it was a typo, and then over-struck with the "I".

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

The most encompassing war the world had ever seen, launched the U.S. into being the world's primary superpower. Some of the manufacturing things we pulled off were staggering, both in number and design. Nobody else built a tank that could and did fight in every theater of the war. Nobody else built a cargo ship in a matter of hours, not weeks. Nobody else built the numbers of trucks we did, even dedicating most of the Studebaker production to the Soviets. Nobody else built a landing boat like we had, which revolutionized amphibious assault.

I could go on, but the fact is that American innovation and factory capacity served the country well in the post-war years, helping it to secure its position among nations.

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

I don't think that is an I overstrike

The apparent correction to I has a top and bottom on the I, but the others Is don't have that.

                              I think it is a hand-drawn I with a top line added.

I blew it up to look at it closely. He had originally typed "DRELL" ... or actually "DRE" AND THEN overstruck the E with an I.
