I understand much better than you do. I also understand the opposite viewpoint. I understand the frustration of some people.

I also know people may not be quite as stupid as some of y'all may think...

I would sure as shit hope so.

Believe it or not, I do, too. My entire D&D group is out of work. I feel like an asshole for not having the same problems they do. And I'm not against them going back to work but can we please dear God do it safely? Everyone wears a mask, and we could safely reopen pretty much everything tomorrow. Wouldn't that be awesome.

    Please love yourself.

Ever stop to think they may be right?

Country is going to open back up for business. Some changes will be made, but you might as well stand on the tracks and hurl insults at the incoming train. The train doesn't care. The train just knows it has a house note to meet and the kids need shoes.

You're actually advocating for no protective measures? None? Because that's what these people are saying.

At this point, how wrong or right are they? I'm not going out unmasked, but I understand the view that no matter how hard we try, infection is almost a surety.

That being so I don’t understand why you thought the patrons of wal-mart (I’d rather lick the hospital floor then go again) were so obtuse.

Maybe because these may not be quite the same critters. Maybe they don't want to wear a mask, but they don't mind social distance. Or maybe they're ok with certain mitigation strategies for older or high risk people, but not themselves. Or maybe they're just tired and ready to take their chances.

When they take their chances, they put everyone near them at risk, too. That's the entire point of this. If they can't be trusted to do anything to contribute to public health, because "freedoms," then yes, we need government orders.

If you look at the pictures of the protests, there's absolutely no social distancing going on at all.

It's not about that. We were talking about a mob of people in the street, yelling very close to one another with no masks on. You yourself do lab testing, and your position seems to be that they're right, and the people following public health guidelines are Stalinists. Yeah well fuck that. If that's your opinion then keep it the hell away from me, it doesn't do anyone any good.

This virus is not going away. I have very serious doubts about the development of a vaccine.

This is not a communist regime nor is it a dictatorship. It is a republic, a form of representative democracy.

As such, you certainly will have control over your individual actions. Other people will have control over theirs. At some point, the public, rightly or wrongly, will make their own decisions on public health and will do so on a cost/benefit calculation.

These protesters are the extreme end of the curve. For now.

They may be the extreme end of the curve, but if they're getting together in crowds, without any masks, and inviting sick people to come along, they're putting everybody in unnecessary danger.

This is the equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded cinema. In fact, this is the equivalent of igniting a box of matches in a crowded cinema and throwing it onto the balcony.

And this republic locked up Typhoid Mary for decades.

I saw a picture of a protester with a sign showing a mask with a red circle around it and a line through it. The sign said something like 'my body my choice'.

He probably viewed himself as the hero standing up to the Man. I viewed him as the schmuck during the blitz, keeping his lights on at night, saying 'my light, my choice'.

I don't think we understand the scope of the stupid idiots behavior.

Do they really put everyone in measurably more danger?

It is a very small number of people and based on their behavior they probably already all have the virus.

The incremental danger has to be very, very small.

And a good number of them will die and eliminate that part of the threat.

                                        So, here's his presumed argument:

"I believe abortion to be murder, but people are legally allowed to kill the unborn. Therefore, I should be allowed to go out and kill a lot of different people."

I think the Latin term for this type of argument is Shitus Extremis.

                                        I was only joking

I saw a picture of a protester with a sign showing a mask with a red circle around it and a line through it. The sign said something like 'my body my choice'.

He probably viewed himself as the hero standing up to the Man. I viewed him as the schmuck during the blitz, keeping his lights on at night, saying 'my light, my choice'.

But does he not have a point? It's not like nobody dies in an abortion...Which is where the line comes from, the Pro-choice crowd...

                                          No, no he doesn't.

Quarantining sucks. It's a big ask and a huge burden. We're doing it so that more people don't die from a health system that can't handle the number of cases that we would absolutely have if everyone went around acting like the protest crowd.

You seem to be saying that because people are going to die anyway, these asshats should have the right to kill others.

                                          Please love yourself.
