The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

            Fantastic 😄 inspirational even.
I've been thinking of getting some Hornby stuff to go with childhood Triang trains.
I wonder who he refers to when he says 'we'; wife or friends

The house with the train was (is?) for sale. They had a spur so that they could load groceries from the garage and take them by train to the house.

It's about 4 blocks south of the "modest" ranch home that Tony ("Joe Batters") Accardo lived in. I know the guy who bought it from Accardo.

GIven the towns we live in, we would appear to love real estate taxes.

@George-K BTW, you used to live pretty close to a local member of the "family" - did you know Burt? I became friends with Burt. It was fun to go to a restaurant with him and his mistress. We'd be seated immediately - food came immediately - and never a bill.

But I walk past Frank Nitti's home frequently.

It's funny how unassuming the house is. Not very Don Corleone at all.

I occasionally cycle past the house of Francis "Cadillac Frank" Salemme, who lived in the next town over, and it's even less prepossessing.

                          I was only joking

Nitti was middle-management. He was muscle for Capone.

When you get into the upper echelons, like Tony ("Joe Batters") Accardo, you lived in something like this:

For some fun reading, look up what happened to the asshats that decided to break in and burgle the place.

My neighbor in Riverside broke the Sam Giancana story for the Tribune. He was friends with the police chief who gave him the whole story - and didn't share with anyone else. Weldon and his wife Bobbie were great neighbors. In her mid 90s, she could recite poetry and had the spirit of a teenager.
