My recollection of that area is that it is a good place to avoid.
But, that is dated, I suspect it isn't a bad place these days.

Lufin, you wanna weigh in here? My daughter ad her rooommate are thinking of going to DC in January for the inauguration and looking at an AirBNB here.

There is still a pandemic going on. Tell them to stay home, they can go to an even more historic one when Harris is inaugurated. Tell them Ax says so.

Yeah...I have to drive through there going to Catholic University fairly often. It’s a block by block situation... I’d look elsewhere.

Thanks. I just made them a reservation in Old Town Alexandria. I have Marriott certificates that are going to expire the end of January anyway.

I believe one of the ways to prevent that from happening is to have some "qualifying activity" on your Marriott account.
Buying points will satisfy that requirement

You can spend as little as $12.50

Definitely a winner. Good transportation options and a nicer area to visit.

Didn’t mean to be negative towards Michigan Park area, but there is a difference between what’s comfortable and safe for a 6’4” 220lb dude and what’s comfortable for a pair of 20something girls in a strange city...

My first year working in DC, 1979, I lived in Alexandria. It was a good place to be single. I would expect it to be safe.

@Copper yeah, thanks. We have stayed there before, near King Street station. I’m much more comfortable with that. At this age I can’t tell her what to do, but I can influence the decisions a bit. Especially with money for low income grad students.
Next up? Change the dates so they are not there for the
Superspreader eventinauguration.
