      My favorite Lyle Lovett song:

      That and "Freaks Like Me."

      Well, there's "Here I am"

      Link to video

In between the musical segments, there's some dialog:

      "Hello
I'm the guy who sits next to you
And reads the newspaper over your shoulder
      Wait
      Don't turn the page
      I'm not finished
      Life is so uncertain"

      (music)

"Given that true intellectual and emotional compatibility
Are at the very least difficult
If not impossible to come by
We could always opt for the more temporal gratification
      Of sheer physical attraction
That wouldn't make you a shallow person
      Would it?"

      (music)

      "If Ford is to Chevrolet
      What Dodge is to Chrysler
What Corn Flakes are to Post Toasties
What the clear blue sky is to the deep blue sea
What Hank Williams is to Neil Armstrong
Can you doubt we were made for each other?"

      (music)

"Look I understand too little too late
I realize there are things you say and do
      You can never take back
But what would you be if you didn't even try?
      You have to try
So after a lot of thought
      I'd like to reconsider
Please if it's not too late
      Make it a cheeseburger"

      😊

Yep. He's a huge favorite of mine for 30 years. Seen him half a dozen times. His band is crackerjack too. I first saw him with Rickie Lee Jones as the warmup,as with this video. People did not understand her as they thought they were seeing a country show. We ended up right down front.

That was fantastic. A concert with both Rickie Lee Jones and Lyle Lovett..... now that would have been an incredible show! Both are excellent story tellers, both have a unique sound, both have a quirky approach to music. Lovett's lyrics are like peeling an onion. On the surface they can sound simple, even silly. Listen to the song a dozen times and you begin to realize there's a lot more being said than you thought.

I had never heard Jones sing that way. I've always loved her solo quirky stuff:

Exactly, which is why I loved his version of "Stand By Your Man." To hear a man singing it gives it a whole different take.

            And, don't touch my hat!

@Mik another one of my favorite Lyle songs.

Wait, what? That's from 28 years ago? The hell.....

Apple Music has a neat feature that has it display lyrics as the song plays:

As great as Joe was, the odd thing about that video is that at no point does she wear a hat.

                    I was only joking
