So what? So did most of us here in 2012. You will note he doesn't say the church will marry them.

TNCR is ahead of Pope Francis for at least 8 years. Yea us!

You will note he doesn't say the church will marry them.

Not even sure if Francis has managed to get the Catholic Church to condone same-sex civil union just yet. At this point it still seems like Francis saying stuff in an interview rather than announcing any official change of stance for the Catholic Church.

Regardless, it won't make any difference. You will recall that at the time the idea of civil unions was reected out of hand. This will be too.

Your phrasing of the process by which this would happen indicates to me you don't understand it.

According to the evidence I've accrued from watching the documentary series The Young Pope, I suspect he's about to have a major cardiac event.

Loved that show. The cinematography alone made it worth a watch.

He and Nick Offerman started their acting careers out together. Their whole group is kinda quirky to say the least.

I thought both series were great. Jude Law was also excellent as the brash yank, and I very much liked Cardinal Vioello. Well, maybe 'liked' isn't quite the word I'm looking before.

Jude Law was remarkable. He portrayed such an honest character - so devoted to his beliefs.

                    I loved this show.

The pop's comments are meaningless. Neither the pope nor the Catholic church have any authority over the state. When he announces that he is endorsing Catholics church same sex marriages, then it's newsworthy. N't until then. He might as well have said he endorses drivers licenses.

                          Look at how it's phrased:

                          "Francis indicates support"

"he thinks same-sex couples should be allowed"

"Homosexual people have a right to be in a family,"

"He was always opposed to marriage being for same-sex couples. But he believed the church should advocate for a civil union law for gay couples"

So, he's speaking not as Pope, but as an individual. This is not dogma - yet.

But any significant doctrinal change on such an issue would typically be presented in a more formal way and after much internal debate. There is, for now, little sign that either is imminent.

I don't see that this is unimportant. In some predominantly Catholic countries there is a history of anti-gay culture and behaviour, and he's clearly trying to use his influence to push away from this.

Roman Catholics listen to what he says, whether or not it's considered dogma.

Vatican says Pope's comments on same-sex civil unions were taken out of context
                                  https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/02/europe/vatican-pope-civil-union-intl/index.html
                                  — — — —
The Vatican has sought to clarify Pope Francis' comments in support of same-sex civil unions, saying they were taken out of context and do not signal a change in doctrine.

In a letter sent on October 30 from the Vatican's Secretariat of State to papal representatives (nuncios) around the world, the Vatican said that two comments made by Pope Francis in the film "Francesco" by Russian-born director Evgeny Afineevsky were taken out of context.
