As many of you know, I was married to W1 in the mid 1970s. Marriage only lasted 18 months, and our relationship was, perhaps 30 months long.

On a couple of occasions, W1's parents came to visit from New Yawk. They would take us out to dinner on those occasions, and once, the four of us went to Maxim's of Paris, on North Rush Street (iirc). It was a fancy-schmancy French restaurant. I actually remember the suit I wore to that meal (OMG, it was brown!).

    But, I digress...

When the check came to the table, I was shocked at how expensive the meal was. It was just over $100 for the four of us.

    I know, I know...inflation.

But today, when I was talking to Mrs. George, I told her that my next phone will have more storage than my current one because, "It's only $100 more."

Yeah, I never thought I'd say "only $100 more" as though I was wiping my ass and think nothing of it.

    I know, I know...inflation ($100 in 1973 is about $500 today).

But still, to think of spending $100 and not really blinking an eye...

    Wow, I'm old.

ETA: At the same time, we parked in Manhattan for dinner and the opera. It was $25. I was appalled.

I get uncomfortable finding myself saying crap like that, too. I guess I'm sliding into old age as well? Either that or I'm just a cheapskate bum. At least one of those is true.

      Please love yourself.

The first time I was in Manhattan in 1978 I bravely or foolishly drove. We parked near the WTC and I was outraged they wanted TWO DAMN DOLLARS to PARK!

I paid $75 for an 8 hour park (self park) downtown Chicago two years ago.

I believe it. It was only $20 to park down near the pier in 2005.

The first time I spent over $100 on a dress, my hands shook so much I could barely sign the receipt.

What? Even in Streeterville, an 8 hour park is about $25.

But yeah, in 1974, we went to see Boris Godunov at the Met in New York. Parking was $25 then.

That’s probably what a day pass to DisneyWorld cost in 1974.

                  You were warned.

McCormick Place, 1979 or so, at a NAMM convention. Went hungry all day because a ham sandwich that consisted of one piece of luncheon meat ham and a slice of plastic cheese between two dry pieces of stale bread was 8.50 and a can of diet coke was 6 bucks...

Your post inspired me... It wasn’t too long ago that I would pay $5 per a pitcher instead of $7 a pint. So I did a quick google search and found that Buffalo Wild Wings still has a $5 pitcher special...Of course, the pitcher is 38oz...🙄
