Very comprehensive and detailed analysis of the Trump swamp:

      https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/10/10/us/trump-properties-swamp.html

“... Patrons at the [Trump] properties ranged widely: foreign politicians and Florida sugar barons, a Chinese billionaire and a Serbian prince, clean-energy enthusiasts and their adversaries in the petroleum industry, avowed small-government activists and contractors seeking billions from ever-fattening federal budgets. Mr. Trump’s administration delivered them funding and laws and land. He handed them appointments to task forces and ambassadorships, victories as weighty as a presidential directive and as ephemeral as a presidential tweet. ...”

I'm just waiting for somebody to explain to me how Biden got rich in 47 years of government "service".

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

Forbes puts him at $15M now. He had $10M in taxable income in 2017. He says book deals and speaking engagements.

By saving a minimum of 20% of his income every year, putting it in a world stock market index fund and not touching it, just letting it grow.

If you are dedicated saver, after 50 years of "compound" growing, there would be quite a bit of money in a persons account.

I dont know VP Bidens total worth, but the below example shows how a person can build wealth

                  Investing $100 Monthly: An Example
*Now suppose the same 30-year-old investor finds a way to save an additional $100 per month. He contributes the extra $100 to his portfolio and keeps reinvesting his dividends and interest payments. His investment still earns 8% per year. For simplicity's sake, assume compounding takes place once per year in January.

After a 30-year period, thanks to compound returns and a small monthly contribution, his portfolio will grow to $186,253.14 (as compared to $50,313.28 without the monthly contributions). While $186,253.14 is not enough money to retire on, especially after 30 years of inflation, remember that this is just with $100 a month in contributions and returns below historical averages.

Suppose the annual return is 9%, which is closer to historical averages for a 30-year period. With a $5,000 principal investment and $100 monthly contributions, the portfolio grows to $229,907.44. If the investor is able to save $200 a month for contributions, the future value of his portfolio is $393,476.48.*

He also saved a ton of money by switching to Geico, as well as by not paying large sums to porn stars he hadn't slept with.

                    I was only joking

His speaking fee per even was about $100K. He's was a professor at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement (UPenn) that was worth about 540K/year.

Then he had a couple of books on top of that.

                              He's worth about $10M-$15M according to Bloomberg/Forbes.

Does crime necessarily have to figure into this? Or is there some fact I'm missing?

I know what a professor at LSU makes, even the heads of the departments.

Nobody makes $540K/yr. Why pay Biden that?

Penn has more money? They sell prestige? They stand to make more money with a former VP as part of their faculty?

Why does Harvard pay more than LSU?

Simple explanations don't have to be sinister.

Same reason that lobby companies pay former government officials large sums of money so that the officials can be on their letterhead and make phone calls to introduce and connect people

Same reason companies MAY do business with President Trumps children when other equivalent companies may be better

Same reason a Ukraine company would have VP Bidens son on the board.

Influence, publicity and (potential) access to power
