I had it over brown rice. Steamed or roasted potatoes would work to.

Gnocchi would be too heavy I think.

The only things I would change are maybe bigger fennel, it could use more, and a dark-colored vegetable broth instead of the chicken broth, just to give it a darker color. It comes out pretty pale, more so than this picture indicates.

Gnocchi are great if you find someone who can make them light and pillowy. If they are dense they're just gross, to me anyway.

You could do diced potatoes and add them late. They only need 20-30m or so. It would still work over rice.
