I had it over brown rice. Steamed or roasted potatoes would work to.
Gnocchi would be too heavy I think.

The only things I would change are maybe bigger fennel, it could use more, and a dark-colored vegetable broth instead of the chicken broth, just to give it a darker color. It comes out pretty pale, more so than this picture indicates.

You could do diced potatoes and add them late. They only need 20-30m or so. It would still work over rice.
