Judgment day cometh. One way or another it all ends Tuesday, thank God. (Also, I hate these fucking stories. I'm so tired of them.)
I'm tight with the President's EA. She's an editor for some DC publications so we talk word shop a lot.
She was asked by the President to do some editorial thing involving four Important People, and I was to promote it. She sent it to me, I got it ready. Department head asked to see it. She then sent me a seriously shitty email: said she was confused why I even thought this would be a good idea, and she questions my judgment as to why I would do this. She then proceeds to shit all over the EA's work, told me it sucks, my promoting it means I don't know my business, and that I needed to straighten it out with the EA.
I called the EA up, and while on the phone I forwarded her that email. EA lost her shit and said she'd take care of this. EA called my boss first to get the story straight. My boss, who was copied on the emails, confirmed it. He actually had to talk the EA down from bitching this woman out. It came close. They were on the phone for an hour.
EA finally reached out, was cordial, and didn't throw me under the bus. But dept head knew what I did anyway.
She emails me. No subject line: "DID YOU TELL HER WHAT I SAID"
I quoted her instructions to reach back out to the EA. Said I did.
Department head called up my boss and screamed at him. I mean literally, shrill screams. My boss had to tell her how inappropriate that was. She emails me back and we start a long email chain, tries for some reason to make me admit I had concerns about the EA thing, too. I denied I did. So now I have to get it ready for promotion "properly" whatever the fuck that means, and get my work cleared with the department head. She's doing this to be able to find fault with it and trump up incompetence charges against me.
I thought about this a long time. Our HR consultant headhunted for this woman, so her agency gets paid out by staffing the department head. That's why HR is so keen on supporting her. And the President is in Chapter 11 on fucks to give. If they come at me for gross incompetence, that story would be backed by my department head, HR, and the President. I'd have a huge uphill legal battle just to get unemployment. They are indeed stupid enough to fight me on it, and I can't pay for a lawyer.
So, I called the EA up and said I'm thinking about resigning, and just wanted to talk to her boss one last time. Not as an ultimatum or anything close to that. Just to explain the spot I appear to be in. To be able to say I gave it a shot.
She reached out to him. His response to the EA: "Is this an HR issue? Because if it is, perhaps it would be best if this were first addressed to HR."
EA and I had a long conversation. A lot of people have been pissed off by this woman. EA said hang in there by Tuesday, when the President gets back from vacation. (Must be nice, I'm working 56 hrs a week right now.) EA is going to try to get other leadership on board for a 90-day review of the department head's performance. She said this kind of thing has happened a couple of times in the past. It's very slow going within the department at first, but when others are affected, things move quickly. So just sit tight, wait until Tuesday. But meanwhile I have to prepare myself for the department head's next move when I "share my work." I have a plan for that but it's so ass-bananas and emotionally draining I don't even want to get into it. This ridiculous post is long enough. So I'll set myself up for failure and wait for Tuesday.
Then again, Maryland officially opens back up on Friday so the decision could be made for me by then anyway.
Holy hell. What a mess.
