      RILEY! 😊

So good to hear from you! Tell us all about your life. No detail is too small.

Hubby and I are working only from home these days. Lots of meetings online, or conference calls. We both did much of our work from home before, especially me, so this has not been a drastic change here.

Stores are mostly open, but may offer curbside pick up or delivery. Restaurants are only delivery or pickup.

Jammies may be worn at any time of day. Happy hour is much better now. The beverages are higher quality, and the snacks are great. I like my bartender very much, and hubby doesn't even mind.

Good to “see” you here, @Riley !

I worked remotely before the pandemic, I continue to work remotely during the pandemic. In that sense, no change in terms of “going into work every day.” But no business trip since the pandemic, so I don’t when I can make it out there to meet up with you again. :man-shrugging:

I’ve been in to the store every 2-3 days. For the most part I have been giving virtual demos but the occasional live appointment as they are allowed in Virginia. I just had one appointment where the people kept trying to stand way too close, the husband was not covering his nose with his mask, And now I will need to leave the store empty for another day before I feel comfortable being back...

I've been 100% remote since mid-March. Not even going to the store.

            Also: hello!

            Please love yourself.

Only do a little part-time nowadays. I do go to work, hard to do hospital work at home.😀

              How's life treating you?

                Hi Riley!

So, does that mean you're going into work everyday? If you are, please take extra care.

Hey Riley! So I go to work every other week right now. It's kind of like working during the holidays, very quiet (maybe 10% workforce) and folks wear masks when not at their desks. Otherwise, I don't go out except for a walk/jog or to the grocery store twice a month at 4am (as I did today, actually).

So, how does that work in practice? My list of annoying questions is as follows:

                      • I'm sure your building has some kind of entry security; is there any increased security or visitor logging going on specifically because of the pandemic?
                      • How does office sanitation work? Is someone wiping down the common work areas, or individual office areas to stop contact infections? If so, how frequently do they do this?
                      • What else are they doing to keep employees safe; anything I didn't mention?

                      Please love yourself.

                        • Nope, it's actually lighter. Again, it has that "working on the day after thanksgiving" feel.
                        • Allegedly they do a "deep cleaning" each weekend.
                        • The list of who's allowed to work is short, and you're only allowed to work during "your" week, which means you're at least cutting the risk of exposure by 50%. Otherwise, no in-person meetings, people in cubes are not allowed to sit adjacent to another person, and folks are asked to wipe their desk area with cleaning wipes at the end of the day. Oh and of course, hand sanitizer dispensers next to each elevator.

Interesting. I wonder why they don't ask the janitorial staff to wipe down personal work spaces daily?

I think just because there are too many work spaces (large building) and the cleaning crew is probably minimized too. Plus, "many hands make light work", it's very easy for each individual to wipe down their own desk each day.

But then you're relying on individuals to actually do that. And at my office? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

A week prior to the governor shutting things down in MD, my office had hand sanitizer by the front door. That's it. That was the extent of their preparation. And on their lunch breaks, my co-workers went to crowded restaurants and complained about how their gyms were being affected. And even now, during the lockdown, there are still dumb motherfuckers going into that building.

                              Please love yourself.

I still go to the golf course every day, weather permitting

I think overall business is slightly up

Most days I am the first guy off and play solo in about 2 hours, potential virus exposure is minimal

@Aqua-Letifer yeah it sounds like your office mates were a bit foolish, but so were mine leading up to this, and we also only had a few hand sanitizers for a while too. I’m only back because my contract requires me to be back during these weeks so our project remains somewhat on schedule. Definitely stay out as long as possible, or at least until medical facilities are less strained!

@Copper if I didn’t have a toddler at home I would be playing golf EVERY single day. Enjoy!

Hey guys! Haven’t been posting much partly due to being hella busy with work, and partly because I didn’t really like Tapatalk. George sent me a FB message this weekend about the new place.

For anyone who doesn’t know, I work for a large meat processing company, in a plant that produces sliced deli meats and hot dogs. I started out as an operator 6 years ago, and was a union steward for 2 years until I became lead hand for the thermal processing (aka cooking) area. This was still a union position and I was technically still able to remain a steward but I felt it was a conflict of interest and resigned as a steward. I’m now in a salaried (non-union) position, Thermal Specialist. I oversee all the cook and chill processes, with about 10 union operators who work under me.

Thanks Mik. Quite a few steps, which have been gradually added over the past month. There are about 1000 employees, very few of whom can work from home. Before you can enter the building, you have to pass through a trailer where they do a thermal scan to confirm no fever. You’re then handed a mask which must be worn all day unless you are alone in an enclosed room. Inside there are cones everywhere to force traffic to single file. Plexiglass dividers have been installed at all break room tables, and only 2 per table for 4, one on each side of the divider. In washrooms and hand wash areas, every other sink is disabled. All staff, union and salary receive a bonus of $80/week.
