I was intentionally hit by a car today
-
Though I ride mostly on trails, I do regularly cross one very major road. I cross at a light with the walk signal. I’m very careful because people do right on red without looking for pedestrian traffic.
Today I was doing just that, and some douche turned right on red in front of me (really he ran the light, no stop). I yelled and put my hand out. He stopped and laid on the horn. Keep in mind I had the walk signal and he ran the light.
I got by the front of his car, and gave him a piece of my mind (because that’s who I am). He then swerved his car quickly towards me, hitting my back tire and pushing me forward though I caught myself before I fell.
He swerved so much that after hitting my bike he put his car up on a very high curb. It sounded pretty bad, I hope he fucked up his undercarriage. Then he sped off.
Bastard. Fortunately I and the bike am ok. I went on and finished my planned ride.
Had a cop seen that he could have had a reckless endangerment and attempted assault charges as well as leaving the scene. The fact that I was not injured though would have kept it in the misdemeanor rather than felony range.

Glad that it turned out well for you. It could have easily been otherwise.
Too many people out there that either think they own the road or they have an exclusive right to set their own rules of privilege. Perhaps they ought not to have be given the earned privilege to sit behind a wheel in the first instance.

1st - glad you weren't hurt. Time for your a GoPro like device to capture these moments. A few years back, our town was having a 5k race in the town. We had police and volunteers blocking the streets. At one intersection, a guy who decided to use his car to knock down a race volunteer holding a stop sign - then proceded to navigate through the lead runners to reach his destination. The woman he knocked down was not injured - and while the guy was tracked down, nothing big came of it. I don't know that I would have been as...generous with my forgiveness.

@jon-nyc Glad you stayed upright. There is something bleakly educational about how many motorists treat a walk signal as a personal insult, but using a car to continue the argument is well beyond ordinary civic rot. If you got the plate, I’d report him. Some people deserve the small, clerical humiliation of paperwork.

First, glad you're ok.
Second, you sure about those charges? Plenty of internet videos where someone does this and they get charged with pretty hard stuff. If there's CCTV footage out there you could maybe get something. But if you're like me... I wouldn't want to spend a second more of my own time on it (charges, court, etc) plus maybe the curb damage provided the punishment enough for this time.
Also, how weird... you had the right of way, like two-way clearly. Grammar!

Glad you're OK - scary stuff. Anybody who cycles knows that some people can be real assholes once they get behind a wheel.

There is a culture in our country of people who absolutley detest bicyclists. Always where the helmet. An exposed uzi strapped around your torso couldn’t hurt either
