Never seen anything like it on my way home from JFK last night. This is a 25mi ride, often 150-175 plus tip. Ended up taking an old-fashioned yellow taxi for 200.

It was NBA finals night, and world cup starts in two days. But still. Never seen anything close.

Same prices as having a heavy duty garage door spring and installation! Insane.

      Elbows up!

Google’s AI says Uber calculates the customer fare and the driver’s pay separately — one algorithm to find the maximum for what customers are willing to pa for a ride, another separate algorithm to find the minimum for what drivers are willing to accept to provide a ride. I don’t think anyone is surprised by this. 🤷

Uber also invests a lot in autonomous driving technology, so all this will become moot anyway when the customers develop enough trust in cars that drive themselves.

I never hear about their efforts. Do they have a pilot somewhere?

In Florida we have something called Scout. It's like Uber only run by the county. Here's the pricing:

Scout fares are zone-based. The price depends on how many zones your trip crosses:

$4— trips within a single zone
$7 — trips crossing into one additional zone
                $10— trips crossing two zones
$14 — trips crossing three zones
A $1 surcharge may apply during peak travel times (6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.) or when bringing extra passengers or large items.

I'm a senior so I pay 1/2 price. The run VW vans. You just book them on the app and they show up to where you are and take you to where you want to go. (I for one hate getting the dollar surcharge!)
