A common term used here in Sardinia. The word piano has several meanings but mostly to mean softly, slow down, enjoy the moment for what it is. But here is a condensed list of what the word can mean…….
In Italian, the word “piano” has multiple meanings depending on context: it can mean “slowly/softly” (Parla più piano), “flat/level” (una strada piana), “floor/storey of a building” (terzo piano), “plan or project” (un piano di lavoro), “level or perspective” (sul piano economico), “plain/flatland” in geography (il piano), “plane” in geometry (piano cartesiano), “foreground/close‑up” in film and photography (primo piano), and as an interjection it means “easy!” or “careful!” (Piano!). It also refers to the musical instrument, the piano.

Interesting semantic divergence. Most of those usages correspond to the Spanish (and Portuguese) ’plano’ though that word has no sense of ‘soft’ or ‘quiet’ as used in fortepiano. For that in Spanish you would use ‘suave’ or ‘despacio’. The word for the instrument in Spanish (and Portuguese) is piano.

Alas, no, it has not yet. In fact, my whole shipping container still resides at the port in Long Beach, California. I’ve been playing a back-and-forth game with Italian bureaucracy with Italian customs, and I think I finally slammed over the last hurdle to appease the supervisor. who is the anointed bureaucrat. as we speak, it is getting ready to be loaded onto a freighter bound for mainland Italy somewhere , probably Genoa, and then will ne transferred to another ship bound for Cagliari. The ache is real

It hurts double hard when it’s condensation coming from a man I respect and cared for men who I would stop on a dime to go meet and have a beer with and talk about the finer arts of the piano forte. And I’m well aware that I misspelled, but I will leave the word alone because condensation also fits. It’s a bunch of fucking crying is what it is.
