I was not aware of this, although I knew an Aldi owned TJs.

@mik Interesting. I did not know the background story to that.

When I was in Austria last year, I took a picture of the "Austrian Aldi". I knew the symbol was an Aldi symbol, but was wondering why the name was different. Turns out that the Aldi South guy bought the Hofer supermarket chain in Austria a lot of years ago, and while it is basically an Aldi, he kept the Austrian name.

I am thankful for Aldi. There is one pretty close and we do 50% of our grocery shopping there. Fruit, salads, chips, bread, cheese, eggs, milk, they even have good frozen meals like coconut-crusted cod. Can't beat the prices anywhere and the quality is good.

Aldi has great fish and lousy wine. TJ has great flowers and great wine. What's best in Aldi is the real German products which are sprinkled around the store.

I didn’t know about the split either. There’s a newish Aldis a couple towns over. I should give it a try. I’ve been shopping at TJs for 20 years. In Brooklyn it was my primary store, here it’s an occasional stop for some favorites.

Yeah in Virginia we'd get probably 25% of our stuff from Trader Joe's. They had so many great "only at Trader Joes" items. One item which is a "not the WORST" snack are plantain chips. Purple and yellow bag, I think... try them out, there is also a spicy version if you need heat. Anyway... I could eat them forever and I think (!) they were Whole30 certified.
