Inventories are really high (unsold in warehouses) and sales are getting low (inflation/cost, health trends...). The main "why" is consumption (and therefore production and investment) really ramped up during COVID but then the demand axis of the graph has really decreased.

Anyway... might be a cheaper margarita in the future.

Smirnoff. Bloody hell, that takes me back. I think it's been a while, although it's possible I just can't remember.

When I was a kid, Smirnoff was considered a slight move upscale from Vladivar, which was distilled in the East. East Warrington, to be precise. I never really understood the concept behind 'quality' vodka. It always felt a bit like drinking artisan paint stripper.

        I was only joking

Artisan paint stripper is Grappa. Vodka is a pale imitation.

I went out with a girl back in high school who's dad was Italian, and he always had that stuff in the house. I never quite summoned up the courage to try it. He already thought I was in league with satan for obvious reasons, although to be fair once she dumped me he suddenly thought I was a good guy. He still didn't offer me the grappa.

If you think that stuff is brutal, you should try ouso, however I wouldn't use it as paint stripper out of sympathy for the paint.

I visited some German friends decades ago when they lived in Treviso (they long since moved back to Germany). It doesn't get a lot of tourists, and they took me to a lovely restaurant that had its own vineyard. My buddy said the first time he went there he ordered a coke and they practically kicked him out. The only beverages they had were water, wine, and grappa. That's when I first had grappa. I had it a few times on that trip but I don't think since.

I'd tell you a story about ouso, but it's not something I ever want to revisit. Let's just say I was found "swimming" around inside an empty campsite swimming pool at 2am claiming to be Mark Spitz. There's a joke in there about swallowing, but once again I will refrain.

My former CEO was Greek, and had it served at his retirement party. One whiff and I very nearly needed to leave the restaurant.

I’m sure he did, the question is whether he remembered it.

I wonder if it still counts as revenge if he liked it.
