It does make me think about my opposition to capital punishment - how I can believe that yet feel some sense of satisfaction that this monster breathes no more.

Easy for me, I’m not against it in theory so much as in practice. Too many innocents have been convicted of murders they didn’t commit. But I’m satisfied they got the right guy and happy to see him fry.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

I am also conflicted about the death penalty. Far too many innocent people have been murdered by the state but I am also OK with this, and other cases that deal with such truly guilty monsters.

I am not against the death penalty, but I think it is a waste of money. I believe it does nothing to prevent crime or make people think twice about doing crime. It costs huge amounts of money to keep someone on death row, and takes forever (if ever) for execution. Doing life in prison is hard, regardless of what you did.

I remember reading an article (I think about Malaysia but am not sure) about different court "philosophies" and in the US, we would rather have 99 guilty people go free so that we do not accidentally do something to 1 innocent person. In Malaysia(?), it is "okay" to have 1 innocent person accidentally found guilty, so that you are sure to have the 99 guilty people caught and punished.

Yeah, I have myriad reasons for opposing it, far more than supporting.

I’m personally against it, but not shedding any tears, either. I’ll support a candidate that opposes the death penalty, but only if they meet a laundry list of other positions, first.

While I hope that this brings closure to Nathan and the family, I don’t ultimately believe it will bring peace, and I hope they have found their peace in other ways.

No, I don't either. Pretty anticlimactic, I think.

Someone told me Peggy passed. Is that true?

Not that I’m aware of. She really withdrew from Social Media, but she was a former employee of Jordan Kitt’s, and we have this informal network that keeps track of each other. I haven’t heard anything to that end.

Same here. We exchanged messages a while ago. She's remarried - has had some struggles but seemed to be in a good place.
