That’s the first place I’d look. You might try some COQ10 as well.

Cramps suck. I think the common advice is to check your magnesium levels. But I have no clue, really, and I'm sure you are just as good as I am in consulting ChatGPT 🙂

My magnesium and potassium levels are measured monthly. My potassium levels are high due to a side effect of tacrolimus. My magnesium is low for the same reason. So I take massive amounts of magnesium supplements- 2 grams daily, 1.2g of that a little before bed. Hence my comment that it’s about hydration in my case.

Also I know I didn’t drink much water yesterday. We were out and about aboot yesterday and I barely drank anything.

I feel for you. Night time leg cramps/spasms are the worst. I get them in my hamstrings, right above the knee. For me, they are related to my back giving out on me a couple of years ago. They get triggered when my back is bad, but also triggered by too much salt or not enough water (so hydration). I end up having to roll out of bed and stand a specific way and it’s so freaking painful. Hope you get better sleep tonight.

Today I’ll overcompensate and tonight I’ll wake up every 45m to pee.

But at least it won’t hurt.

Sounds awful Jon. I very rarely get cramp but when, it's halfway up calve muscle. Follows hard day on legs and dehydration. So it can be avoided.
By our age we know our bodies, so e.g. I haven't had a proper migraine since retirement (tiredness, eye strain from computer and driving into low sun).

I'm up once overnight about 3 hours in. And have a pint glass of water by my bed (to counter any bad eating habits like crisps. But I drink it before breakfast whatever).
Interestingly I've recently experimented with a cup of weak tea a couple of hours before bed and contrary to my guess, it seems to help with getting a longer sleep period.

last time I got horrible leg cramps was after a day of working on my trees in super hot weather. Sweated all day. I was hydrated, but lost too much salt.

Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. I remember leg cramps when I ran lots of miles. Hydration helped.

I’m already at 15 standing hours at 4:30pm. You’d think I hadn’t slept at all.
