NY Phil tonight
-
Thursday I got a message from Bootsy saying he had an extra ticket to the NY Phil.
We saw Yefim Bronfman playing the Schumann concerto and Tchaikovsky’s second symphony.
Excellent seats, 6th row just left of center. Here’s a picture of them placing the piano.

Two great performances.

Damn. Had to look up a clip of him playing it.
In a weird way he always reminded me a bit of Scalia. A powerhouse. Almost with a talent inhibited by how fast his mind (or hands) can move.
Either way... me (personally, obviously) always enjoyed Rach 3 when I like to think of it as a dance, and later dominating boxing match, between the piano and the orchestra. Of course at the end of the 3rd movement the piano wins but leaves the last few minutes to be romantic and respectful of the orchestra. But this is a clip from the first movement, I always liked this part as it was the part where the piano said "I'M THE CAPTAIN NOW" to everyone else. I even love the subtle looks on the folks at 1:50 as they recognize the talent.
@aqua-letifer introduced me to this piece back in 2003 and it has been easily my favorite music piece in t3h w0rld.
