Thought this conversation between two relatively decent Trump haters was good. I now officially respect Ezra Klein more than I do Sam Harris. Didn't see that coming, 10 years ago. I guess Ezra has changed more than Sam has.

This conversation focuses on the political work ahead for the Democrats given the reality that they have to live with Trump voters, one way or another. They hover around what is to me the greatest hurdle - the masses care about politics not centrally to make the world a better place, but simply to give their lives meaning. That meaning can easily come from smug superiority, and/or banal hatred. Money stat from the conversation: 11% of Trump voters would think it appropriate to sever ties with family over politics, while 44% of Harris voters would.

The Dems have a lot of work to do. These two are willing to do the work (Ezra more than Tim, who is way more histrionic and tribal in any other conversation, but here mirrors Ezra's attitude). The masses of Dems aren't really willing to do the work, because the work would sever their ties to politics. They are in it for the hatred and the smug superiority, and as soon as that fun is gone, so too is their interest in participating.

I checked the comments on that video. Safe to say that the message of the conversation is not being embraced by Tim's audience.

Here's a more mainstream leftist podcast today. Bombshell conspiracy that the guy who allegedly shot Kirk was framed. I didn't watch the video, but I got the point from the title and the comments. Oh boy. This is a mainstream pundit, like the left's Ben Shapiro.

Pakman has 3.3m youtube subscribers, ben has 6.6m. Not sure who is a more mainstream internet pundit for Democrats than Pakman.

According to ChatGPT, Pod Save America is the most popular mainstream Democrat pundit show online, but Pakman makes the list.

Peter Attia interview from back in 2021 with the journalist who really dove into the Andrew Wakefield hoax and the origins of the ‘vaccines cause autism’ memetic complex.

He follows the histories of the players involved (Wakefield originally sought out to show measles caused IBD), what they did, what they fabricated, and how they were able to have their initial success.

Bloomberg’s Odd Lots podcast had two great episodes in a row on Venezuela.

Yesterday was on the oil situation, today was on the debt situation. Today’s was far more interesting than I expected. It was more of a history lesson than a wonky bond podcast. Many of you would enjoy it. Probably more than the oil one.

Latest Making Sense podcast with Sam Harris has John McWhorter as a guest. They talk about the state of woke, where it’s receded and where it remains.

                    From the show notes:

Sam Harris speaks with John McWhorter about language, ideology, and moral certainty. They discuss the rise and persistence of "wokeness" and DEI, the legacy of George Floyd's death, the role of social media in amplifying moral panic, how identity shapes perceptions of Israel-Palestine, the linguistics of Donald Trump, the rise of casual speech, conspiracy thinking, positions McWhorter has reconsidered, and other topics.

I listened to the free part. It's fine. I've clocked WcWhorter though, which is not as disrespectful as it sounds. It's just that he rarely says anything that particularly interests me anymore. Not because he's uninteresting, but because he was interesting enough that I got my fill through his books and his podcast appearances, mostly on Glenn Loury's show.

Coleman Hughes continues to surprise and impress though. I'm consistently enjoying his stuff.

Still haven't really gotten back to Glenn since I read his book. I know he's getting older, and not quite at the same level as he was. I kinda feel him running the verbal routine now.

I think they’re running out of new things to say and the new things Loury is coming up with I’m not interested in. I rarely listen to his show anymore, the fact that much of it is paywalled doesn’t help.

For anybody interested in a good ol’ anti woke conversation, Stossel spoke with stalwart Heather MacDonald. Almost nostalgic. Neither side is focused on this anymore.

                                    RFK Jr. podcast

In the first episode, Kennedy interviews reality-TV chef Robert Irvine about his makeover of military food at Fort Hood, an Army base in Texas. Irvine was the host of the popular Food Network show Dinner: Impossible when a newspaper investigation found that he had embellished parts of his résumé, including that he had created Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding cake. Irvine admitted to exaggerating his qualifications and was initially dropped by the network but was eventually brought back. (Irvine also happens to have a line of snack bars called FitCrunch; while protein-packed, they’re also made with the sort of difficult-to-pronounce ingredients many nutritionists caution against.)

Irvine did serve in the UK’s Royal Navy after enlisting at a young age, and he began his culinary career there. On the podcast, he tells Kennedy he’s been working with the US military to bring in healthier dining options with a focus on fresh and whole foods. He claims he’s helping to lower food costs by negotiating with suppliers—something the Pentagon has presumably not thought of doing—and that the dining hall food at Fort Hood is so good there are “lines out the door.”

Irvine doesn’t address what kinds of foods Fort Hood was serving before he stepped in nor does he elaborate on the meals it offers now, beyond lower-sodium chicken and sliced melon.
