Don't laugh at my ignorance, but yesterday I was in our Costco and there was a display of Yamaha pianos, with a vendor dude playing one. I stopped to listen and he had me sit down at a grand and show me how you can record what you play (no big deal, right?), but when he hit "play" to play my audio back, I looked down to see the actual keys moving as if it was ghost-89th playing it, precise action, timing, everything exactly as I had done. Maybe this has existed for a while, but that blew me away to see my ghost performance on the keys in front of me. And to your link...that would be really fun to see a piano play as if the ghost of Rachmaninoff was sitting there performing for you.

As for interconnect companies - Transparent makes a $6,600 power cord - goes alone with their $30K interconnects. Their Opus line of speaker cables start at $50K. Figure 8 at least a half dozen of those power cords, a few $25K interconnects, speaker cables and you're well on your way to a couple hundred K - and you haven't bought speakers, amplifiers, etc.

My buddy has several of the Transparent $6,600 power cables. Two or three pair of the $25k interconnects and the $50k Opus Speaker cables along with the Transparent power conditioners, etc. He just purchased an new $80k turntable after moving through a few turntables that started at $35k, $65k, etc. His Phono Cartridge alone cost $15k. Two D'Agastino Relentless 800 Monoblocks amplifiers at $100k each, a $65k D'Agastino Momentum Pre-Amp, a pair of $140k Sonus Faber Aida II speakers, a CD transport and DAC that costs $65k, all in a dedicated, professionally engineered listening room.
My system is a little more humble. I have several "hand me downs" from him. They include power and interconnect cables and a power conditioner. I have a variety of cables from Transparent/Nordost/Kimber/Iconoclast and they are usually very expensive when purchased new or used. He gave me incredible deals on things I would never have purchased otherwise. My speakers (Sonus Faber IL Cremonese) are the biggest expense in my system I bought them pre-owned as I could never justify what they cost new. I still could have purchased a pretty nice used car for what I paid for them. I bought most of my system as pre-owned equipment of course. Only the phono pre-amp and cartridge were purchased new. I recently sold my Ayon Spirit III Tube amp and used the funds to purchase a pair of Simaudio 400M solid state monoblock amps that output 650 watts into my 4 Ohm speakers. I also picked up the matching Simaudio 350P preamp. I recently got into Reel to Reel tape and found a near mint Pioneer RT-1050 2 track 15ips deck that is just amazing. Also have a Roon Streamer and PS Audio Directstream DAC for my Tidal subscription. My vinyl LP collection has grown to almost 500 albums now.
It's an addiction for sure.

That’s the Disklavier, though what you saw was like 1080 resolution vs 4K. It does a lot more than that…

@mark Do you think you could identify a $6600 power cable vs a $10 power cable in a blind test?
I for one have always wondered how a miracle cable for the last 6 feet makes any difference after the current went through hundreds of feets of very cheap ordinary cable.

@klaus I have never tried a blind power cable test. I have tried blind tests of interconnects and speaker cables and have heard different results. I also conducted blind tests of of the same with people who were skeptical and they heard differences. Does a more expensive cable always sound "better"? That is where subjectivity enters the equation. Once you have so much money invested in a system the "improvements" get very subtle and justifying the cost is also very subjective.

Well, I think that if common engineering sense tells you that it can't really make a difference, and nobody can reliably identify a difference in a blind test, and you are still buying it, then it means you've crossed a border you probably shouldn't have crossed.
I hear that "audiophiles" also invest a fortune into cables that carry digital signals - where it's technically impossible that a better cable, regardless of how sophisticated or expensive, can make any difference at all.
