...if you hate self-checkout as much as I do.

I vastly prefer it and will wait in a short line for it before I go to an empty cashier.

I like self checkout too. But only when I’m buying a small number of items.

True that. But I always do as I shop most days.

There is always a dedicated theft prevent watcher at the self-checkout at HEB. One time I got a very tall black man who hovered over me as I checked out, then moved to the exit of the area as I was finished. I got the impression that he was trying to make a point. Maybe he wanted to make me feel what it was like to be suspected. But I haven't seen him since.

I had a guy come up to me like he busted me for typing in the wrong code for my apples since the voice says ‘weigh your apples’ instead of specifying that they were honey crisp. Turns out I had coded them correctly. (3283 - one of the few I know by heart)

It has never really occurred to me to cheat though I imagine I’ve accidentally taken the organic version of something who’s code I’ve memorized and then not put the 9 in front

Same here. If I have a good volume of stuff, I prefer the folks who are extremely efficient at scanning and bagging.

He was just complaining about his grocery expenses, wasn't he?

While we’re talking about checkout lines, one of the worst things is when they let some snot nose kid bag your groceries. They always do it badly. One of the best parts of self checkout is the self bagging part. No one is crushing my grapes.

Best middle ground is finding a hot cashier who can crush your grapes

                            Wear looser underwear, man.

                            That was a metaphor, right?

At one of the stores I go to it’s often middle aged Latina women bagging groceries. They take good care of your grapes.

I am usually OK with self-checkout, except when I need to use a gift card and when I buy something with special discounts; having a human cashier makes it easier to deal with "exceptions."
