LKAS What’s the point?

Karla, Fin, and I drove down to Luke’s girlfriend’s performance on Thursday afternoon and drove back Thursday night. We left DC at 3, arrived at 7, attended the performance and dinner, and was back on the road at 10:30 and home at 1:15 AM.

Around midnight, I was more than a little road weary and decided to turn on the adaptive cruise control to stretch my legs. While doing so, I noticed the LKAS button for the cruise control. I had never played with it before, so figured I would play with it now… I hit the button and relaxed my grip on the wheel. I was shocked when the wheel started turning to match the bend in the road. That lasted all of 3 seconds before it started flashing for me to take the wheel back because it had lost the lane markers. That woke me up…

I played with it all the way back, but it really sucked. Every 30 seconds it would lose the lane and I had to take over. So what’s the point? Other than giving me a shot of adrenaline and keeping my mind awake testing it, how is it a practical feature?

Might not function as well at night. I've only driven one like that, a Tesla. The problem I had with it was it reacted a split second after I would have. You have to get used to that.

My LKAS experience is the same @LuFins-Dad

Seems to be more of “jolt me if I’m drifting” feature than something that really keeps you between the lines for more than 10 seconds without giving up. Probably by design, CC+LKAS= a sleepy driver
