The Trump administration is launching an intensive immigration enforcement operation primarily targeting hundreds of undocumented Somali immigrants in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, ...

    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/us/politics/trump-somalia.html

[Trump] said Somalia “stinks and we don’t want them in our country.” He described Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat of Minnesota, who came to the United States from Somalia as a refugee and became a citizen 25 years ago, as “garbage.”

“We could go one way or the other, and we’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country,” Mr. Trump said. “She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage. ..."

Wonder what the sentiment on the ground is when it comes to the Somali immigrants in Minnesota.

My own bias showing here but removing undocumented Somalis is probably better for the country in the long run than removing a similar number of Latin American nannies or Home Depot day laborers.

I'd have to agree. They've made a godawful mess of their own country.

Not to mention Islam above a certain percentage becomes a threat to western civilization and small-l liberal values. Latinos not so much.

I always found it funny that folks from such a hot place migrated to such a cold place. FYI the main "hub" (similar to Little Italy, China Town, etc...) is the Somali group you see here:

If they remove all those Somalis who's going to be left to vote for Ilhan Omar?

The problem isn’t the undocumented Somalis, it’s the ones documented and registered to vote in Ilhan and whasserface in the Senate that is the problem. They move into one small congressional district and suddenly one extremely small outlier migrant group wields outsized political power in a divided nation.

And while a lot of these far right groups can be bigoted and irrationally xenophobic, their point about there being some cultures that can’t truly be folded into our American tapestry is not without some merit.
