    It’s not a podium, FFS, it’s a lectern. The podium is the thing you’re standing on.

    99/100 get this wrong.

          You would if you had to stand on a lectern to conduct with the score on the podium.
          Lectern from the Latin, lectrum, to read.

          Podium (low raised speakers platform) and rostrum (higher stage for performers) also get mixed up.

                Pedant😄 It ought to be couldn't but informally now both are used.
                I should amend my would to wouldn't but shan't.
