He, and Jon Stewart, are forgetting something. Fighting the “good fight” and opposing Trump at all costs is great politics in California and Massachusetts. States where Dem control is solid. But in purple states like PA, NH, NV, and Maine? You need crossover support. You need independents and even some Republican support. So you need to show some ability to compromise and actually legislate. Kaine in particular needed to get Northern Virginians back to work. Remember that specific polling of public sector labor unions (FFS, how do they even exist?) showed the majority supported this deal over three weeks ago. It even caused a split with the Dem aligned labor unions.

        It was just foolishness.

Some Interesting points that’s not getting as much attention:

          1. This is the FIRST shutdown caused by opposition wanting to increase spending, not lower it.

          2. How can you conceivably call the AFFORDABLE Care Act a success when a decade later it requires enormous subsidies to make the policies relatively affordable? By definitIon, the act has failed.

          3. Democrats pissed the hell out of the actual working bureaucracy. Normally that’s the Republicans domain of pissing them off. I’m curious to see if there’s any repercussions.

Living life as the grasshopper and not the ant, I had next to zero savings when this hit. I have been diligently paying down much debt these last few months to become debt free by the end of the year. I have negative checking account balance as we speak so am looking forward to the retro pay so that I can afford to leave my house one day soon. I stay positive with the knowledge that my financial situation will improve in retirement which is a bit odd but there it is. I have calculated my passive income come the new year and if the rental deal of my home to my godson goes as planned, I will gross the same amount as my working days. What makes future financial situation better is that my check won't have these items deducted any longer from my gross pay: Social Security, Medicare, Thrift savings plan (401k) contributions. The bummer on Medicare at 65 is that I won't be signing up for part B as they don't cover Americans living overseas. So I will have to make due with my federal employee health insurance which the government continues to contribute 75% of my premiums to for the rest of my life.

              Pensions are nice.

But government workers are the most oppressed community in America, outside of trans people.

              Education is extremely important.

Those poor trans fed workers are our martyrs. They live and die on a cross.-
