Anyone else do the monthly Apple iPhone plan?
-
I have an iPhone 12, it works fine but is starting to show its age. Just ordered the 17 and in the past I would always just buy the phone outright, but this time I'm doing the monthly plan where (I think?) you can upgrade to the latest model after 12 months, and also get Apple Care (repair and loss coverage). Over 24 months it's like $250 extra, but seems like a good deal. Guess I'll continue my 5-year streak of no screen protectors or case!

I looked at Apple care before and decided it’s not a good deal. Usually with a large enough ‘n’ self insurance pays off, at least where there’s no liability risk involved.
These days you can buy insurance on pretty much any non-edible product at Amazon it seems. All the money I save not doing so will easily pay for the one product every few years that breaks out of warrantee.
I’m getting the 17 for Mayla. She has a 15 but it doesn’t have enough storage. I had no idea about the vastness of demand of her instagram feed when I bought it for her.

My 12 is still going strong and the overnight charge almost always lasts the whole day. I don't use a lot of storage on my phone. Can't see the fixed cost.
But I'm still a bit of a Luddite on technology. If it does what I want done, I'm good. Bells and whistles will not significantly change my life, and so many of them are trying to 'help' me, which is 95% annoying.

Side note, we are going to get a landline. Ugh, guess it's not really the copper connection kind, but VoIP. Anyway, want to teach the kiddos basic phone manners, and also give them a way to call us or a neighbor if they need something and we are away. Of course now that I did a google search about it, I'm getting all sorts of stories about how there's a trend of getting landlines again for kids instead of any form of a smart phone.

The 17 Pro Max lets you go up to 2 TB storage. Hopefully that will tie her over for a bit. Then ...

I would've stayed with the 12, but with the kiddos being young and seeing how great the latest camera (including zoom, video, etc...) is, I wanted to improve the videos I have of the kids, especially with a few trips coming up. That being said, the 12's camera is still fantastic.
