Piano upgrade time

SK7 is a helluva piano, that’s a 2021. I’m not thrilled with the retrofit system, and if I’m correct, that 100,000 song library becomes 500 in a year. QRS gives you 2 years of full access to their library for 2 years, then they give you the 500 songs you played the most. If you want, you can then go into a subscription service, I believe.
-
That’s not necessarily a great deal though. MSRP is $130, but it’s my experience that you can find them for a lot less. $50K is likely a fair deal but not a great deal.

How much value is considered for the player attached.
So even though this piano is 2020 but if it is true that the thing has only been played on for 10-20 hours, making it to me pretty near a brand new piano, With a player, 50k is not an extraordinary deal for this shigeru?
-
A player system on a used grand piano lowers the resale value. So does a wood finish. (Sorry red piano club!). The higher the level of piano, the more it lowers the value.
-
The Bosie 225 listed for $50K would have a higher interest for me.
-
The hours the piano have been played are kind of irrelevant in determining the value (to an extent). What matters is number of owners. You can buy a new car with 1000 demo miles on it and it’s still new. Somebody could order a new car at 0 miles, drive it 500 and resell it, it’s still a used car and if lower value than the new listed above.
Beyond that, the piano likely sat on the floor for 2 years from 21-23 and was demoed and played many times. If it had the system already installed, the. It had even more play. If the customer bought the piano then had the system installed, then less.
-
That Bosie has Ivory keys and reading EU regs, it will not pass customs. Pre 1975 pianos generally are allowed as well as any established artist who owns one. But even without that being said, 1989 bosie vs 2000 shigeru with player, assuming no real work was done on bosie, that would be your first look? I emailed owner of the shigeru and asked him the pertinent question you brought up. Nice pickup on the possibility it sat on a floor for years running the player. I also asked if i could have an rpt come check it out. The bosie now, that’s only in LA and not Louisville so there is that to consider as well. Well actually not because of the dammed ivory Thanks LD.

Can anyone speak about Lindeblad Piano? Todd Lindeblad and I spoke about a 1970 Baldwin sd10 9 ft grand he has waiting for someone to put money down for him to start the restore. He sounded like a good dude and just wondering if anyone is familiar with his work?

Today I am going piano crawling. To the Bay Area. Looks like 5 stores on the route,
Rkassman piano in Berkely has yamaha, kawai, bosendorfer, schimmel, mason hamlin, estonia, grotian, steingraeber.
San Mateo Piano has Shigeru Kawai
Colton Piano in San Jose has Mason Hamlin Sauter
Music Exchange San Jose has Bosendorfer Yamaha
Southbay Piano in San Jose is affiliate of San Mateo piano and has a hardly used big Sauter I am told I must try
Silicon Valley Piano has C Bechstein.
I think that's enough for one day. Will report back soon. -
I really was hoping to find a Bluthner dealer there but alas only in LA. Have been keen on their sound lately. But to be able to touch finally Mason Hamlin, Estonia, Grotian, Bosendorfer , Shigeru, C Bechstein, and Sautre all in one day could be sensory overload as it is.
-
Shigeru SK7 still my top desire to testdrive and was speaking to one of the salesmen yesterday and explained my situation with Sardinia and he suggested that I might do better finding Shigeru's in Europe for cheaper as they have to compete against all the German pianos over there. But no Kawai dealer in Italy, closest is Spain. He said though that the SK7 they have on the floor is pretty much new that was sold and shortly given back and is Shigeru's 3rd generation piano and that I might be amazed at the price they will give me.

A fun day, for sure. But I think you are correct in your statement. If you try and do too many in one day, it becomes difficult to separate them. I think you need to take some detailed notes immediately after playing each one.
-
I'm enjoying your quest from the safety of my living room. I'm not as excited about the modern Bluthner pianos. I've played all of the pianos you're trying. An exceptional instrument by any one of them could work for me - but generally I'm inclined toward a Hamburg S&S or Bosie. I've not played many Faziolis - so they might win the day as well.

I think they are so different that one cannot love both. It's either or.

Yeah - I understand - which is why I'd like both.
