Went to a random restaurant, one of the closest ones to the AirBnB we’re at on the second half of the trip. The huge parking lot was empty at 1:30 pm and I figured they were closed. We wandered the estate, and it was an estate, and eventually found the stairs to the restaurant, where the door was open and the dining hall was completely empty. A waiter popped in from the back and indicated they were open. We had a meal that one cannot find in America, but which was probably typical around here. Turns out this is part of the Medici estate. They do a lot of weddings and other big parties there. But today their services were focused on two American tourists. 10/10, would appropriate an entire Medici estate restaurant for my personal use again.

Lord, that risotto looks great. As does the steak.

Today we drove to Siena, an ancient walled city with lots of churches and tourists. On the way there we passed by a pull out trail head sort of thing with a gravel road leading up from there.

            IMG_0806.jpeg

Turns out there is an ancient castle up there which they turned into a restaurant and hotel. Because of course there is. I had more steak.

Up the hill farther is a scenic panoramic view, but the view is not great. The hills are dusty and brown. At the view site is an art installation, some stone sculptures. One of them is designed to torment thirsty hikers by looking like a water fountain while being not one.

Then in Siena there are churches and doors and churches with doors, which are the best sorts of churches and doors. Also a dollar store.

Awesome pictures again. A friend of mine’s family has an apartment right on the square in Siena and they watch the Palio from there. He also has a flat in Rome and land in Tuscany granted to his family by a pope in the Middle Ages. They grow olives there.

You’ve lost weight, relative to the last picture you posted (a piano recording). The new anti-diabetes diet probably helps with that.
