And didn’t even have to to get a new car!

The GMC was acting funky last week. I was 2/3rds of the way to work when it started vibrating and it almost felt like I was driving on a bumpy road. I knew that I was going to need new control arms, so I had it towed to the shop and had them installed. Picked up the car the next day, was driving to work, and 2/3rds of the way it started doing it again. I finished getting it to work, called the shop, and they assured me it would be safe to drive, my axle and connections were all fine. When I left that evening g it was perfectly fine until about 2/3rds of the way home, then it started again… Hmmm. pulled over, got a bite, got back in the car, and it was fine. Took it to the mechanic and it took a week to figure out the problem. About 25 minutes after turning on the engine, the back differential gets confused and starts sending out conflicting power signals to the back wheels… The options? Pay $3K for a new rear differential, or just remove it and turn the car into a FWD. I have 280K miles on that car since I bought it in 2016. It’s getting replaced next year, so I just had them cut the differential. No problem…

On a much smaller scale...Years ago the a/c compressor went out on our minvan. It seized up, causing the most god-awful noise when the engine was running--whether the a/c was in use or not. Replacing wasn't worth the cost...and even taking it out was gonna be a chore. We were able to buy a shorter serpentine belt and just bypassed the damn thing. Traded it in, in the fall...
