The road to hell is paved with good intentions and traveled using free bus passes.
It all feels a bit Ken Livingstone to me. London survived him, of course. I'm sure NY can do the same.

It will leave them ready for the next Rudy.
A couple observations- first, I cannot believe NYC would elect a Muslim mayor after 9/11. Second, if there’s any city that needs a bare knuckles brawler it’s NYC. That mayor is up against all the most powerful players and factions one can imagine. I don’t know whether he has the stones for it, but I doubt it.

NEW YORK CITY — Zohran Mamdani, winner of New York City's mayoral Democratic primary, has vowed to knock down the One World Trade Center in order to build more affordable housing.
Mamdani admitted that taking down the popular tower was something of a political suicide mission, but he remained undeterred.
"We will not allow the wealthy capitalist elite to hijack our city," said Mamdani. "As mayor, I promise to take this problem head on by bringing down One World Trade Center and putting cheap, government-controlled apartments in its place. I understand that people believe this initiative could really blow up in my face. But so long as I'm at the controls, that's where we're heading."
Many New Yorkers have expressed doubts about Mamdani's plan, not believing it to be feasible. "That tower would be almost impossible to take down, unless the support structure were to be melted or something," said local man Roger Philips. "Mamdani said he has a plan he's been working on for years with a dozen or so experts, but I'm skeptical."
At publishing time, Mamdani had announced he would also be removing all synagogues in the city to make way for new government-operated grocery stores.

I wonder if he's ever talked about how he plans to pay for all the new government providing all the free stuff.

Duh. Rich people. If there are any left there after the election.
I really think he will just assure a GOP mayor.

He has a tax plan but it all has to be approved by the state. I don’t know all the details, but I think ever since the city needed to be bailed out in the 70s (remember the NYPost famous headline- Ford to City: Drop Dead) the state has some veto power over the public fisc.

My concern is the anti-Mamdani vote will be split. There will be the GOP guy, Adams as an independent, and possibly Cuomo - he is considering running as an independent.
The GOP guy ran before. He’s the founder of the Guardian Angels.

He calls himself Trump’s Nightmare. I think it’s more like Trump’s Wet Dream. The more guys like this are in public eye and in positions of power, the stronger you make Trump.

Hard to imagine anti-Zionist or antisemite winning in Jew York, even if he has the D next to his name.

I haven’t followed Lander much (the comptroller) but I thought their co-endorsement was tactical given the ranked-choice voting. Let’s see if it continues into the general.

@LuFins-Dad said in Cuomo?:

He’s actually got a fair amount of “progressive” Jew support. The Jewish comptroller has been very public in his support. He really plays into the anti-Zionism ≠ antisemite.
He got the wealthy college educated white person vote. Progressive Jews will be a big part of that. The people in the parts of the city he aims to help most directly with his helpful socialism, voted mostly for Cuomo.
