      That was quite an interesting video and explanation.

      I have not heard of that situation.

      It is amazing to me that they can understand everything that is said. I had trouble, and I played some sections a couple of times. If it wasn't for the captions, I would not know what they were saying.

        That's a colossal fuckup, and yes, a great video.

          Agreed. I always wonder if it's clearer to the actual folks communicating? I know a lot of it is standard phrases so they become quick/abbreviated, but still... captions always help.

          I don't want to be in total robot mode, but it's surprising we aren't at a point where autopilot controls at least the heading and altitude for all departures and arrivals at this point. The fact that a runway is both 1R (and also 28R) at the same time, with a 1L and 28L next to it, as we said in another airplane near-miss thread... is just asking for disaster. Relying on a pilot to read box 2 instead of box 1 manually...

          @Copper are the transmissions clearer when actually communicating?

            I think that they are clearer when actually communicating.

            The source of the recording will make a difference. A lot of what we might hear on Facebook or YouTube probably comes from this place:

            https://www.liveatc.net/

            Here for SFO

            https://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=ksfo

            These live and recorded broadcasts are monitored and recorded by volunteers. I assume they have standards, but you get what you get.

            You can go back and listen to recordings, but not all are available.

              @89th
              1R and 19L are the same runway.
              28L/R and 10 R/L are the crossing runways
