I was obviously being flip. Defending him has become untenable, so people like you, Mik, and LD criticize him.
For those who are psychologically incapable of criticizing him, the only remaining option is avoiding cognitive dissonance.
We’ll know Jolly views Trump as a success if/when he starts posting again.

It’s not a zero-sum game. It’s definitely not all or nothing. I have profound disagreements with this administration, and can still honestly say that I believe it strongly beats the alternative that was offered.

Everybody grants to themselves the grace that voting for a person is not an implicit endorsement of everything that person does in office, but inevitably the online arguments devolve to implications that other people totally endorse everything their favored politician (or party) does.

I’m here for the articles. At least, back in the day, that’s how I justified reading playboy.

I suspect he considers Trump a success at this very moment. He's just doing so elsewhere. Personally, I don't think it's a done deal that Trump is worse in the long run than the Harris machine would have been. He has certainly been worse for the economy, as a snapshot now compared to what it would be under Harris. But it's still possible that we'll get a Trumpism cultural direction, without a Trump detachment from reality. Like, no tariffs, and gentler ideas about international trade, like maybe so gentle that they actually coincide with a real appreciation of capitalism. An apology to the world in a post-Trump era for how dumb the trade stuff was, would probably go a long way too, but that may be a bridge too far for anybody brought up in the Trump GOP. We'll see. Trump has left lots of good directionality in his wake, even as he plows forward sometimes insanely.

Well you’re sure as heck not here for the centerfolds.

I think it’s more about seeing where people lie on the principled - tribal - cult member scale. There are plenty of us here who regularly, even brutally, criticize the people we voted for. And there are some that aren’t made that way.

Hm, it was pretty common last election for people here to avoid even admitting who they voted for. In order to avoid uncomfortable things like that. And it is not true that anybody is as free with their criticisms of their preferred party, as they are with the party they hold in more contempt. Nobody is free from the dopamine hit of relaying an anecdote that confirms their political choices.

I'm thinking Copper has a worthwhile complaint. Politics, politics, politics. Always, all good in it's place. But in the past we were much more than that. We used to be charming and witty and the kind of people that post interesting articles and talk serious trash about snail mating and movies and "damn those French people".
At one time TNCR was the coolest place in the f---ing universe. Really. Let's go back to that again. We're the same people. We can do better.
A bit of a rant there...

I do try to introduce other things. But Trump does seem to suck up all the oxygen everywhere. Personally I’m tired of it already and willing to see where it goes once the PT Barnum wears off. Much of what he says is mere distraction anyway.

Yea. We all know Trump is a POS. But he's the best we have had in a long time. To be honest Ax, your BEST posts were the ones where you posted ten years of dinners you ate before you deleted them. (Or something like that.)
That was about five years ago... what have you been up to?
-
OK, so maybe I was a little harsh, I didn't calculate the actual pro/con post counts.
If you would like to demonstrate your hatred, please continue.

... what have you been up to?
Gained maybe 20 lbs. and added 2 inches to my waistline.
Commensurate increase in cholesterol levels.
Someone totaled my compact hybrid and I replaced it with a gas powered compact.
Replaced a minivan that has given up the ghost with a hybrid SUV.
Oh ... a lot more white hair.You?
