Third MRI, this time on my neck
-
Cause you know, you can’t just have one thing wrong with your back at a time, it all has to go to hell at once. I’ve had sharp pain in and around my shoulder blade since December, and it radiates down the back of my arm into my elbow when it gets really bad. I’m terribly claustrophobic, you can go into the tube feet first for the lumbar spine, which i managed twice - last year - slight panic attack with no meds for the first one , then lorazepam for the second one, and that took the edge off. This one today I had to go in head first, and I’ve been worried about if for weeks. But they gave me a double dose of lorazepam and that did the trick. Made me loopy enough to not care. I have to have another, on my thoracic vertebrae - not sure why - so I have to do this again in a few weeks. At least I know now that i can handle it. Just hope they can figure out whats going on and that it might be fixible… my lower back is not fixible without fusion and I’m just not ready to go that route yet.
@jodi Oh wow! Sorry to hear about that. Hope that the doctors are able to help you find some relief.

Funny thing is I have no problem with it now, but when I was in end stage lung disease I couldn’t deal at all. Cancelled one with the stop button once. It was for a research study not for clinical purposes. Now it’s no problem.
Hope they heal you soon, Jodi.

Very, very stupid question. But can you just close your eyes (maybe even have foam earplugs in) and try to forget what's happening? Fears are real things. My dad can't drive over a decent sized bridge. One time he made me, when I was 15 and only had a freakin' permit, drive across the bridge that connects mainland north carolina to the outer banks.
Anyway, here's to a speedy diagnosis and treatment!

I dont really have claustrophobia, but before I first stayed in a capsule hotel in Japan, I was worried for a few weeks before that I would freak out staying in the capsule. But it turned out to be much bigger than I thought it would be and had no problems.

That is the only way I managed. They put earphones on me, they played 70’s easy listening music
(which is drowned out by the massive noises of the machine) and i closed my eyes as they rolled me inside. As long as I didn’t open my eyes I was fine. The drugs helped a LOT.

Sorry that you’re going through this with your neck and back. I have a friend with similar chronic issues with the same.
Only had one MRI and that was five and half years ago. I remember the mechanical noise- but dosed off anyway. Can’t say that I have ever experienced claustrophobia although I doubt whether I would ever take up spelunking as an adventure vacation.

Don't knock the coffin until you try one.
Many spend the longest times in one.
Though admittedly there are also many would rather burn in an oven.Yes, I slept in one of those capsules in a capsule hotel in Tokyo too. It's an experience alright.
Get well soon, @jodi.
