Lovely. Just booked my next DCA trip (May 7-9). It's funny how many members of congress, especially on Thursdays and Fridays, you can find boarding planes there in the afternoon. Probably every other time I'm boarding I see someone from congress (no security).

My last lobbying trip, one of my colleagues sat next to a rep we talked to that day on his flight back home to Buffalo.

Ugh.... you know, it hits so much differently when kids are involved.

Detached rotor = catastrophic failure. Nothing the pilot can do. It's a falling brick at that point.

A new angle shows the helicopter seemingly just "detach" from the rotor midair.

                    One commenter:

Doesn’t look like mast bumping, my money is on a gearbox seize. The helicopter rotates hard right which is due to the torque, that surge could cause over stress on the tail boom and sheered it off, followed by the rotor assembly ejecting as it fell.

Wow, those poor kids. That is just awful. There are people that need to spend a long time in jail if they are found to be at fault.
