It just gives the liver false hope and is therefore cruel.

      Ha

They’ll end up, after a lot of drama, with the same formula they use every time they have a trifecta: take away health care and food assistance from low income families and use the money to fund tax cuts for their donors.

        lol

I’m a week in I guess. I ritualistically have seltzer while making dinner now, replacing the wine that had become something of a habit.

And you, @89th? How’s it going?

Overall good! Each day I've done some calisthenics (15 min of stretching and body-weight exercises like planks or squats), and 4 of 7 days I've done about 20 minutes on the stationary bike. Also tracking water intake, and sleeping a tad more.

For dry January, I did give in on Sunday night while watching the Vikings lose... but felt it in the morning, and reminded me why it's good to cut the late night snacks/drinks out. I also don't keep any beer in the fridge... if it ain't cold, I ain't tempted to drink it!

Not trying to do anything crazy, but slightly better eating, less snacking, slightly better sleep, less booze, more water, and regular/daily workouts of some sort. Most of them I do with the 3 kids all going crazy around playing with monster trucks or dolls, but such is life today...

Mayla's birthday is this week while I'll be in Lisbon for our biannual international conference. So we're celebrating today. Tonight will be my first glass of anything alcoholic at home in 2025. I still drink when I'm at events.

My life is one big event. A solo event, admittedly, but an event nonetheless.

                I was only joking

Hey, it ain’t considered drinking alone if the wife and kids are somewhere in the house.

Portuguese reds are incredible bargains. I suspect they’ll have some great stuff.

I was in Portugal with the boy in the summer of 2022. We went to Nazaré, a beach town famous for the largest waves on the planet (but only in October). We went to a restaurant and I saw one of their vinhos verdes (‘green wine’, but really white) for 7€. I ordered it and they brought me THE WHOLE FUCKNG BOTTLE. FOR 7 EURO. IN A BEACH TOWN. IN SUMMER.

I was shocked but also embarrassed. Buying an entire bottle of wine to drink by myself before driving my son and I back to the hotel was not my plan.

It’s just as wasted if you drink it and don’t want it.

This was filmed on the beach we were at, maybe a year or two before we were there.
